MODERN BREAD & BAGEL WILL OPEN SOON
A. sent this shot: Modern Bread & Bagel, which has been suspended in amber on the corner of Church and Duane for months, had customers recently and seemed to serving. It turns out it was practice: “We’re getting the team in place and putting the finishing touches on. We’ll officially be opening later this week!” said one of the owners. A CRUISE TO BENEFIT POETS HOUSE
Poets House, the nonprofit poetry library in Battery Park City, will host a benefit, Poetry on the River, on a ferry cruise leaving from Brookfield Place Ferry Terminal on Saturday, Oct 3, from 4:45 to 7p. Rickey Laurentiis, Ariana Reines and Tracy K. Smith will perform readings aboard the ferry. Tickets ($175) include a post-reading reception on the ferry. More information here.

INDOOR GOLF VENUE IN FIDI
Never knew about this place until I saw they were applying for a liquor license, so mentioning now: Five Iron Golf opened at 22 Stone Street in Fidi in 2019, then closed for renovations and opened again in 2024. It’s got a sport-bar atmosphere with nine golf simulators that give you swing analysis and instruction.

THE BALLOON MUSEUM IS OPEN
The Balloon Museum, which has taken over the Tin Building, is now open to the public. Somehow I missed this — they were supposed to open in July, but then that was delayed. I guess they opened August 7… I will head over next week. In the meantime, hours are here; tickets for 60-90 minutes range from $59 to $39 for adults, depending on the hour.
