One of the car lifts that stacks cars at the open-air parking lot on Warren and West Broadway collapsed earlier tonight, flipping one car over and injuring the longtime attendant there.
My young neighbors first sent me the news from the Speedy Park at around 5:30p, using their older sister’s phone to capture the shot above. By the time I got to the street an hour later, several neighbors, including the owner of Warren Peace, Briken Fejzullai, whose car was parked inches from the crash site, were assessing the damage. We learned then that Eddie was scraped up but not severely injured and sitting in the ambulance. According to bystanders, he had narrowly escaped the tumbling vehicle.
It looks like the platform of the lift one car up disconnected from its scaffold, sending the car head over heels to the ground. That car then crashed into the van parked in front of the lifts, which skidded over the sidewalk and wrapped itself around the fire hydrant.
Like this insane crash a few weeks ago, it’s a miracle no one was on the sidewalk at that moment.
Police officers were inspecting the scene for a couple hours; by 8p, most of the damaged cars were towed. I will get the full report tomorrow.
