CAR ENGULFED IN FLAMES AT HOLLAND TUNNEL
C. caught these shots of a car on fire at St. John’s Rotary, the exit of the Holland Tunnel, on September 10 at about 9:20a. Two lanes of vehicle traffic were stopped at the location of the engulfed vehicle. Traffic approaching the vehicle fire was only able to exit through emergency gates at Vestry Street and Varick Street. The Port Authority Police Department and the FDNY responded to the scene and extinguished the fire by 9:53 a.m. No injuries were reported.

TOXIC WASTE DISPOSAL EVENTS
The Department of Sanitation will host fall SAFE Disposal Events starting Sunday, September 20, at Union Square North Plaza. They will collect household items such as pesticides, strong cleaners, mercury-containing devices, paints, automotive fluids, medications and e-waste. All events are rain or shine, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. There is also a year-round Special Waste Drop-Off site that accepts aerosols, batteries, E-waste, E-cigarettes & vape pens, fluorescent light bulbs & CFLs, motor oil and transmission fluid, motor oil filters, paint, passenger car tires, and mercury-containing devices at 74 Pike Slip between Cherry Street and South Street. Open every Tuesday through Saturday, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.
