Seen & Heard: Wayfinding for a counterfeit bazaar

WAYFINDING FOR CANAL STREET COUNTERFEITS
Reporter Nicole Gelinas caught this sign in Midtown. I guess it’s guerilla art? But it happens to coincide with a crazy explosion of counterfeits on Broadway…

WOMEN’S PICKUP SOCCER AT PIER 40
Tribecan Bethany Sousa has organized a women’s pickup soccer game for Downtown that meets weekly for casual, fun scrimmages. The current schedule is Wednesdays at Pier 40. The group is generally 30+ with the average age around 45. “We recently have lost some players due to people moving to other cities or the ‘burbs, so are in need of more players,” Bethany wrote. Email her at at downtownsoccernyc@gmail.com to join.

NOWHERE NOW SERVING
NowHere, the hub for local creators whose work is influenced by Japanese culture, now has a Japanese-inspired cafe, and the classic Japanese staple egg sammie on their super soft milk bread is on offer. (Thanks to A. for the tip.) More TK, since I have yet to cover the gallery itself. 40 Lispenard, Monday to Friday, 11a to 6p.

MTA HONORS ITS WORKERS IN PHOTOS
The MTA has opened a photography show across several stations — including Bowling Green — with a series of 50 photographs that give a rare all-access look inside the maintenance shops and industrial facilities of the transit system. Photographer Christopher Payne shot at 13 MTA facilities and manufacturing plants in four states, with a special focus on capturing the behind-the-scenes infrastructure work and specialized skills required to build and maintain the machines that move New York. The photos are displayed in huge decommissioned advertising light boxes.
