Nosy Neighbor: What’s going on in the construction yard on Harrison?

[There is also one on the west side of Greenwich; see below.] It’s been sitting untouched for over a year and has been accumulating junk and trash. Plants growing in the Belgian block. City just dropped off some rat traps. Such an eyesore on one of our prettiest corners.”

So this an update on this post from last September. The fenced-in sites are central storage areas for the Department of Design and Construction’s *Complex* Pedestrian Ramp projects at 31 corners in Community Boards 1 and 2 — though these two sites only cover material for nine out of the 31 corners. The new corners will be ADA compliant, plus the contractors will reconstruct the curb and sidewalks; relocate water mains and hydrants; adjust catch basins, sewer manholes and chute connections; and add traffic lighting upgrades.

The Complex Ped Ramp projects, as opposed to the Simple Ped Ramp projects, require much more coordination because of existing underground interferences, the department said. The project will cost $21 million overall. It started in June 2025 and completion is expected in June 2027.

As of today, utility and street-light work should be completed by the end of the year, with concrete pedestrian ramp work beginning in the spring.

The community liaison for the project did tell me that they will speak with the contractor to see if the storage area on the west side of Greenwich Street can be reduced. (Not the one in front of Meadow Lane…) These sites, the department said, are the most central to all areas where the contractor is working.
