Seen & Heard: Maman’s New Lifestyle Shop

••• The original Maman café on Centre Street is getting a companion next door: “Marché Maman—a marketplace curated by the founding partners of Maman, Benjamin Sormonte & Elisa Marshall. Ben and Elisa will redefine the retail market by bridging the gap between traditional long-term storefronts and trendy retail pop ups. Marché Maman will offer the first co-retail market of its kind and will be the first brand extension for Maman. […] Everything from lush flowers and arrangements, luxurious beauty & lifestyle products, home décor, signature ceramics, fine kid’s clothing and accessories, handcrafted local small-batch ice cream, partnerships with leading brands outfitting the kitchen, outdoor back patio and more.” It opens Thursday.

••• Hal Bromm‘s summer show opens tomorrow, July 12; it features 10 artists. Below: “Tumble 2” by Jeanette Fintz.

••• There has been no visible progress on the Van Leeuwen ice cream shop in the Seaport, which had me nervous that the deal fell through. But the company’s website lists it among the locations. (“Coming soon!”)

••• Last week’s Where in Tribeca…?, which went unsolved, was at Little Park, in the stairwell leading to the restrooms and private room.

••• Starting yesterday, “as part of the Hudson Square Connection’s collaborative Yarnscape art installation, New Yorkers will weave different colors of yarn through the fence at Freeman Plaza West.” Which is nice. But I’m still wondering whether Smorgasburg will be able to do anything to/with the chain-link fence at 76 Varick (Canal/Sixth/Grand/Varick). It looks like a prison yard.

••• And now, for something non-Tribeca…. When Prince died, I made a list of songs I thought everyone should know. Having only just realized that Spotify also functions as a social network, I created a playlist of most of them. My account is etorkells; feel free to check it out. (I’m not sure what info of mine shows up, but if you see Smash Mouth as a recently played artist, I disavow it. I think I played a random 90s playlist.)

  1. Heard any news about Big Gay Ice Cream? There was supposed to be a pop up shop first, no?
