••• An article about how “developers are turning old bank vaults into secret party rooms” includes 49 Chambers (“The building’s richly decorated main hall will become an event space, while a walk-in vault on the lower level is being eyed as a speakeasy-style private dining room”); 108 Leonard (“its historic, marble-clad banking hall is slated to become a high-end restaurant or retail space”); and 20 Broad (“Its vault will also become a speakeasy-type amenity, according to architect Nancy Ruddy, who is handling the project. ‘It will have a poker table and be very dark and mysterious'”). Both 49 Chambers and 108 Leonard were previously owned by the city, which probably should’ve insisted on public use for the grand interior spaces when it sold them. Instead, the community “media center” at 108 Leonard will be half in the basement (as well as 10,000 square feet instead of the promised 16,000). —New York Post
••• More thefts in the Tribeca Trib police blotter, including yet another one at the Duane Reade at 250 Broadway: “A 31-year-old woman was arrested after she was seen putting 72 La Roche-Posay cosmetic items worth $2,541 into two bags and leaving the store.” At what point did the security team get the sense she was up to no good?
