We’ve been through the businesses that seem like they might open fairly soon (note: that article has been updated with info on Crewcuts, Color Me Mine, and what might be a health-food store); now, let’s take a look at the second wave. I’m not including opening date projections because who knows? Some may even open earlier than expected. PATRON OF THE NEW
Location: 149–151 Franklin (between Varick and Hudson).
What was there before: Intérieurs, a home design shop (which moved to the East 50s).
What we know about it: From November: “Al Abayan, formerly of Number (N)ine on Washington, […] just emailed, explaining that after Number (N)ine stopped producing globally, he continued to consult with the designer, Takahiro Miyashita. ‘But the new project on Franklin Street is new venture for myself and partners. It will be a lifestyle store of women’s, men’s, and interior items all curated by myself (and it will carry Takahiro’s newly launched line called The Soloist). We plan to open early 2011.'” The store will be called Patron of the New, or the New for short.

WALKER’S (ANNEX)
Location: 18 N. Moore (which fronts Varick).
What was there before: A grocery.
What we know about it: Last February, Walker’s went before the CB1 Tribeca committee to secure a liquor license for the new space, which will add 34 seats—including a six-seat bar—and a brick oven for pizzas. It’ll all be called Walker’s. It’s been in the works for so long that no one seems to know when it might actually open.

COLUMBINE
Location: 227 W. Broadway (between White and Franklin).
What was there before: Rosario’s Kitchen.
What we know about it: The new owner of One White St. is leasing to a new restaurant in the old Columbine space (see below), so Columbine is moving next door. On Thursday, Jan. 13, the CB1 Landmarks committee will get a look at Columbine’s plans for the façade.

NUTOPIA
Location: One White St. (a.k.a. 229 W. Broadway).
What’s there now: Columbine (see above).
What we know about it: “[Jesse] Eidsness, a former manager at the Sympathy for the Kettle tea shop in the East Village, leased the four-story building at 1 White Street in July, a month after it was sold by its long-time owners for $3.25 million to an undisclosed buyer, who Eidsness said is an investor in her restaurant,” reported the Tribeca Trib in October. “She’s taken up residence in the two-story townhouse on the upper floors, and said she plans to open a fusion eatery on the bottom two. ‘It’s inspired by little pieces of a whole range of foods,’ Eidsness said, adding that she hopes to open the restaurant by next summer. ‘We’re still in development on a lot of the details.'”

UNNAMED MOTORCYCLE CLUB
Location: 475 Greenwich (between Canal and Watts).
What was there before: N/A.
What we know about it: In a December article on the rejuvenation of Canal Street, the New York Times mentioned that “One of the two retail spaces will soon be home to a high-end motorcycle club; members will pay dues to take Japanese and European bikes out for spins.”

EXERBLAST
Location: 100 Reade (between W. Broadway and Church).
What was there before: Grimshaw architects.
What we know about it: From November: “We are thrilled to be opening our family fitness business in Tribeca where three of the partners either live or have children in the neighborhood schools,” emailed Kate Gyllenhaal, executive vice president, program design for eXerBlast. I couldn’t get more out of her at this time other than that they’re hoping to open early in 2011. The website of Windham Pilates in New Hampshire, however, offers an eXerBlast program, and here’s how it’s described: ‘Our new eXerBlast class is a fitness adventure where exercise is actually fun! Open to children ages 4–12 and their parents, this program challenges hand/eye coordination, speed, agility, rhythm, core strength and aerobic capacity. Using our active Sportwall and other apparatus, eXerBlast keeps everyone in the class moving, laughing and enjoying quality time together. This is one of the few fitness programs that you can enjoy with your child, regardless of your fitness levels. We encourage parents to participate with their children, encouraging your child to learn that fitness is something to enjoy as a family, and creating a bonding moment that you both will enjoy.’”

THE FLEA THEATER
Location: 20 Thomas (between Broadway and Church).
What was there before: Not sure.
What we know about it: In September, the New York Times reported: “Executives of Off Off Broadway’s Flea Theater said they had purchased a building downtown to create a new home, concluding that buying instead of renting was necessary for its survival. The Flea […] bought a two-story office building at 20 Thomas Street last December for $5.3 million, according to the artistic director, Jim Simpson. The Flea is ‘now in the quiet phase of a capital campaign to raise money to create at least two theaters within the 5,600-square-foot building.'” Meanwhile, the Flea continues to operate at 41 White.

UNNAMED RESTAURANT
Location: 59 Reade (between Broadway and Church).
What was there before: Spaghetti Western, a restaurant.
What we know about it: For a few months now, the CB1 Tribeca agenda has listed an “application for tavern-restaurant liquor license for Alex Tortolani or entity to be formed d/b/a TBD,” and it gets pushed every time. Seeing as how the 57 Reade construction crew has removed its equipment from the space, maybe we’ll learn more at this month’s meeting. Update 1/13: It disappeared from the agenda of the January meeting.

UNNAMED FASHION BOUTIQUE
Location: 139 Reade (between Hudson and Greenwich).
What was there before: Kiva Café.
What we know about it: One source told me it would be a women’s fashion boutique, while another said Jack’s Stir Brew Coffee was taking it over (though Jack’s never returned a call). The construction permit in window mentions “retail,” so we’re going with the former. UPDATE 1/15: The word is that Jack’s girlfriend (yes, there’s a Jack) is opening the boutique, which explains the confusion.

UPDATE 1/15: PEDIATRIC OPHTHALMIC CONSULTANTS
Location: 141 Reade (between Hudson and Greenwich).
What was there before: Lotus Salon.
What we know about it: As reported here first on Jan. 14, the Upper West Side’s Pediatric Ophthalmic Consultants, founded by Dr. Mark Steele, is opening a satellite office; the office confirmed it.

HAZELDEN SOBER HOUSING FACILITY
Location: 283 W. Broadway (between Canal and Lispenard).
What was there before: Not sure.
What we know about it: “The failed downtown Manhattan condo conversion, Tribeca 5, will be reborn as the home of a new collegiate, sober-housing facility operated by Hazelden, one of the world’s largest providers of substance-, alcohol- and drug-abuse addiction treatment centers,” reported Crain’s last month. Hazelden claims it will be the first of its kind in New York City. […] The new Tribeca housing facility will target young adults age 18–29, who have recovered from alcohol and drug abuse and need post-treatment services. The second through sixth floors will house up to 30 students, six per floor, while the first floor and basement will be used for recovery programs and meetings. […] The property, which has been empty for a year and a half, is 80% complete and Hazelden will invest under $2 million to finish it, said Mr. Mishek, who expects the facility to open for students in the fall of 2011.” The project will be discussed at the CB1 Tribeca Committee meeting on Wednesday, Jan. 12. Update 1/15: The discussion was dropped from the agenda.

What was there before: Two Rivers, a restaurant.
What we know about it: A liquor-license application for Jin’s Empire Asian Cuisine has repeatedly popped up on the agenda for the CB1 Financial District committee, but it keeps getting pushed.

What was there before: Anbar Shoes.
What we know about it: Nothing, except work appears to be getting done.

JUNG SIK DANG
Location: 2 Harrison (at Hudson).
What was there before: Chanterelle.
What we know about it: Jung Sik Yim, the chef/owner of Jung Sik Dang in Seoul, appears to be planning a high-end Korean restaurant.

LOLË
Location: Crain’s (see below) says it’s at 32 Hubert, but all signs point to it actually being at 408 Greenwich, in the Hubert Street storefront directly west of Oly Atelier.
What was there before: N/A.
What we know about it: In December, Crain’s reported that “Lolë, a Canadian company selling everything from bikinis to women’s puffer coats, recently signed a three-year lease for 1,600 square feet at 32 Hubert St., at the corner of Greenwich Street in Tribeca. […] This will be Lolë’s first freestanding store in the U.S., though the retailer already sells at ski and sports shops around the country. The Tribeca store should be open for business in February—just in time for the end of the 2011 ski season.”
