There was so much news from Leigh Stackpole, who ran the beautifully curated shoe store at 60 Hudson, that it deserved a full post.

First she sends an update on what she’s been doing since the store closed in July:
Since the pandemic, I have left the brand and moved back to the Bay Area to be with my family for the time being. I am taking some courses, doing racial/social/economic justice work, creating and searching for my next chapter. I hope our paths cross again someday.

She also noted that Patrick Parrish Gallery will show the work of Ruth Kneass, whose work the shoe store also featured. Kneass’ sculpture will be paired with a selection of the fine mid-century furniture of Pierre Jeanneret, and Kneass will host a discussion at the gallery on Dec. 5.

But Leigh also explains that she has been investing more of her time fighting to get the San Francisco PD to fire one particular officer for brutality. In 2015, he beat her son, who is Black and at that point a recent Fordham grad, as he was dropped off near their home. The department never gave an explanation for the arrest and certainly not for the prolonged beating, which left her son with a concussion and other injuries, and the charges were soon dismissed. The same officer also killed a 15-year-old Black boy in 2012, and Leigh joined forces with that boy’s mother to start a change.org petition.
