Related bought Truffles Tribeca in 2019, and now The Financial Times reports that the company has emptied the building at 34 Desbrosses and Washington and has secured a loan that will allow it to change the interiors into bigger apartments and replace the facade. The apartments would then be sold. “Related bought the complex for $260m in 2019, seeking to capitalise on the transformation of Tribeca from a faded commercial district into an expensive neighbourhood.” Were we really a faded commercial district??

WESTFIELD SUES STARBUCKS AND VICE VERSA
Crain’s reports that the Westfield mall at the Oculus has sued Starbucks since it never reopened its store there after the pandemic. And Starbucks sued Westfield in January to end a lease at a different location in the mall since Westfield had never gotten the space ready for them. “In March this year, Starbucks tried to terminate the lease under a provision allowing it to do so if its revenues fell below $2.5 million for the year. However, the option could only be exercised if the store was open and operating according to the lease, the mall operator claimed.”
