CHELA OPENS ON THE 13TH
Chela, the new Mexican in the former Distilled space, will open on June 13 for dinner. Very exciting to have this space activated again, and part of the Tribeca Mexican revival. On June 20 they will start lunch service and on June 25, brunch service. This is the second Chela for owner Ronny Jaramillo (the first is in Park Slope); he also owns several other bars in the city. And he has also already tracked down a criminal in the Franklin Street subway station. More soon.
DANCE WITH MISS RACHEL – UPTOWN
DWMR is opening its third location on the Upper East Side this September East 78th between 2nd & 3rd. The new studio will have four classrooms and the usual offerings: ballet, Broadway, tap, hip hop, Baby Bop! Music, piano and voice lessons. Enrollment will start there soon. DWMR started here in 2012 and opened on the Upper West Side in 2020, right in the midst of the pandemic. (That’s Rachel with her own girls.)
BRITE BUY WINES IS MOVING
Brite Buy Wines & Spirits, the wine store on the corner of Franklin and Franklin Place, is moving (not closing), though to where is TBD. (Thanks to P. for the heads up.) The owners also have Tribeca Wine & Spirits on the corner of West Broadway and Worth (it used to be on Greenwich and Duane) and they are keeping that spot as well.
27 PARK PLACE COMING ALONG
I’ve said it before but it is worth noting again: 27 Park Place, aka 111 Church aka 24 Murray, looks gorgeous. I am not sure how we lucked out that this building was restored and not leveled and left as an open pit, as was the blockfront on West Broadway between Warren and Murray…

Ajisai on Duane has been open for three days now. I had a very fresh, very tasty 3-roll sushi lunch special there today, for a reasonable price. I’m eager to see their dinner menu. I think, as was previously posited in TC, an offshoot of a midtown restaurant.
Also went to Ajisai for lunch with my son today and we both agreed it’s our new go-to sushi spot. Great sushi and service.
Also went to Ajisai too and it was sooo good and nice to sit down. Def come!
