This is *really* a sneak peek in that Jolene Howard literally peeked in the windows to capture these images of Maxwell Social, the private club planned for the former China Blue space on Washington and Watts.
David Litwak, who founded the club, said the team is rushing to finish things up — he will circle back when it is all ready. They are still waiting on some city certifications (c of o maybe?). “I don’t want to announce something before I can stand behind it and it’s actually in MY control,” he said.
I toured the raw space last May, when they hoped they would be wrapped up in five months. It certainly looks close to complete now, and they have hosted some parties, as you can see on Instagram.
The idea is a “second home” — a place where you can throw your own parties with your own food. The club will supply cleaning staff but will not sell food at all. There are three kitchen islands, several lounges, dining tables and one fully-vented kitchen in the center of the room across from the Watts Street entrance, with 10 burners and all the bells and whistles.
Members can store their booze in lockers or bring it in.
The cost listed now on the website is a $2500 minimum “community investment” (like a share) plus $250 a month. The space will be open Monday to Friday from 5p to 1a and Saturday and Sunday from 9a to 1a.
