New plans afoot for the Sarabeth’s corner

The prominent Tribeca corner in the Bazzini building on Greenwich and Jay (most recently Sarabeth’s) has a new plan: Ludico Tribeca, an Italian restaurant helmed by chef Nelson Gonzalez. You can get your first bite at Taste of Tribeca this weekend — cool that they will be launching there. (Thanks to JW for digging a little deeper on the Taste lineup!)

This is of course from the Beefbar family, whose Tribeca Hospitality Group took the space more than a year ago, with the plan to open a branch of the Milan-based franchise Paper Moon Giardino. But they decided to shift away from that and create their on concept. (I will get a walk-through next week!)

Gonzalez was born in Venezuela, raised in Texas and trained as a chef here. He was head chef of the American-British restaurant Kinship in Hong Kong; prior to that he honed his classical European techniques over a decade of working at Michelin-starred kitchens across the city. He has worked and lived all over the world; his Instagram bio includes a anagram for Venezuela, Spain, the United States and Hong Kong.

More soon — or try it yourself on Saturday.

  1. that’s too bad – was hoping for Paper Moon Giardino. :(

  2. A Google Map search shows there are 23 Italian restaurants in Tribeca already… so makes total sense that this place will be an Italian restaurant, and the Carbone guys are supposedly taking over the Tribeca Grill space for an Italian restaurant, and Mr. Chows space will be taken over by an Italian restaurant as well.

    • Ya, I had the same thought. I love a plate of pasta as much as the next guy but what’s up with all these Italian restaurants? Seems crazy!

  3. I wonder what will take over the Il Giglio space.

  4. I had the same thought/concern regarding the influx of Italian eateries into the neighborhood. It would be nice if there was more of a diverse mix. There must be some way to regulate this. Perhaps it’s something the Community Board can address? I understand that landlords are anxious to sign leases, but come on, let’s be realistic. Just how many Italian restaurants do we need within the Tribeca footprint? Maybe give us another bagel shop instead. (Just joking.)

    • I’m quite far from a “free market” person, but are you suggesting the government regulate the type of cuisine restaurants can serve? 🤦

    • I vote to regulate this communist out of Tribeca. What an absurd comment.

    • I vote to regulate this person out of Tribeca for his comments. What a racist comment. The last thing we need is for communists like him to dictate restaurant cuisines. These people are helping invest in our neighborhood which has a sad amount of empty commercial spaces that struggle to get rented.
      Move back to Jersey Paul.

  5. Can we get a good korean restaurant in the neighborhood that’s not jung sik

  6. Just what Tribeca needs, another “concept”…
