Thanks to A. for the tip: Bodyrok, a franchise of Pilates studios, has taken the recently abandoned but nicely renovated Orange Theory space on Hudson and Duane. This was of course originally Ninja and is all underground at 25 Hudson.
The studios — there are six others in the city — offer seven different classes focusing on different body parts — each for 45 minutes — a high-intensity, low-impact hybrid Pilates class using a Reformer. Lighting and sound are part of the experience. This video is pretty straight-foward:
I am going to avoid using all caps for their name since EVERYONE is now using all caps! I will apply my new cranky editing policy to others as well, since it seems to be a thing with Pilates! Here’s the local run down:
The OG here in the neighborhood is of course Real Pilates, which has been on one part of Duane or another since 1996. (More on that 30th anni soon.)
And there’s been a more recent wave: Strong is coming to Broadway and Worth in October; Amare opened upstairs on West Broadway and Warren; Ethea on Leonard is a combo of Pilates and sculpt; Fuze House opened in 2025; WundaBar opened in 2024; and there’s also Nofar, which opened on Thomas in 2023. Sancta has a website but not a lot of info there — other than that they open in January on Hudson and Beach.
