FOR HAITI’S SAKE
Go buy a coffee—make that a round of coffee for everyone you work with!—at Wichcraft. All coffee proceeds today go to the American Red Cross Haiti earthquake relief. Also, keep an eye open for the Restaurant Week food truck, which will be in Tribeca Feb. 4 and 5; it’ll serve soup from participating restaurants, with $1 from every $6 cup going to rebuilding Haiti. (P.S. I ended up eating at Motorino in the East Village last night—the restaurant was part of the Dine Out for Haiti initiative—and the pizza was good, but Franny’s is still #1 in my book.)

Tribeca-based designer and entrepreneur Jennifer Esposito has launched a clever line of furniture-slash-playthings called Jenny’s Blocks. The kid in me wishes I had had them way back when; the adult in me wishes I had Esposito’s apartment now.

DIM BULBS
I posted a rant about bus bulbs, those sidewalk extensions in Soho and Tribeca that were supposed to have helped traffic flow—and not everyone appreciated it.

sita_x_sati-189x3001THIS WEEK AND BEYOND
••• Thursdays are free at the new Museum of Chinese in America, courtesy of Target, and this Thursday evening, Singapore artist Jimmy Ong will give a talk. (That’s one of his works at right.) Plus: Chinese lessons for kids.
••• City Winery has announced shows by The Blasters, Raul Malo (such a voice!), and Lisa Loeb.
••• Learn to drive a Zamboni at the Battery Park City Ice Rink!

IN THE NEWS
••• Grim construction news for Hudson, Hubert, N. Moore, Beach, and Franklin.
••• CB1 wants the trial of Khalid Shaikh Mohammed moved, perhaps to Governors Island; Bloomberg called that notion “one of the dumbest ideas” ever. Some folks—um, me—are frankly more concerned about the police department’s proposed clampdown than the possibility of another attack. For details on the NYPD’s “hard” and “soft” perimeters—the security zones around the federal courthouse—read here.
••• The Kansas City Star sneaks a peek of a mock-up of one of the WTC waterfalls.

STEAL AND DEALS
Did you know Megu has a beer night, with half off its massive artisanal beer list? And a wine night, with 50 bottles half off? And no corkage fee? And a Hot Iron Kobe night? Fo’ shizzle! (As you can see, I’ve already had my Wichcraft coffee this morning.) Details here.

Speaking of Megu: The restaurant released its Valentine’s Day prix-fixe menu, as did the Harrison (though I questioned its value), and Trattoria Cinque (aphrodisiacs). Landmarc, meanwhile, is accepting reservations for parties under 6 on OpenTable (it doesn’t usually). If you’re not taking your petit chou out for V-Day, you might consider a big bouquet, such as this one from Balloon Saloon.

NAME-DROPPING
News and notes about Babesta, Pearline Soap Factory (and Justin Timberlake), Playing Mantis, Korin, Bazzini, and Locanda Verde.

BE A PAL
Please forward this to anyone who might find it educational or, more likely, entertaining. And consider becoming a friend of Tribeca Citizen on Facebook or following it on Twitter—though there’s not much reason to do both since the same updates get posted both places. Cheers!
