“They’re clothes made for kids who love to play,” explained Pascale Suissa, manager of the new Tribeca outpost of Polarn O. Pyret. “They’re so comfortable.” They’re also for people who love stripes—while not everything is striped, it’s definitely the signature look. Being Swedish, the company also specializes in outerwear. Most of the clothing is unisex, the better to be handed down.
Polarn O. Pyret has locations in many European capitals, as well as one in Greenwich, Conn., and a brand-new one—it opened last week—on the Upper West Side. “Other U.S. locations are being planned,” said Suissa.
I was kind of hoping they’d have stuff for adults, especially when I saw the staff wearing striped T-shirts. Alas, it’s all for kids, with the exception of a few pieces for women who are expecting or nursing. (To that effect, the store will have a nursing room.) Although Suissa did say that boxers—to match the kids’ ones—will soon be available for men.
Polarn O. Pyret is at 200 Chambers (between West and Greenwich); polarnopyret.com.

Are they previously of Hannah Anderson? Striped garments look the same
Given the childhood obesity epidemic, with 1 in 5 NYC kindergarteners being obese, do you really think that sending them to school in horizontal stripes is the best fashion choice? I hope that the PS 234 Rapid Response Team mobilizes rapidly to confront this problem. No bake sales, for obvious reasons.
I think it is more important for the parents of PS 234 to be concerned with not being rezoned into Chinatown than it is to be worried whether their child is enjoying too many of the Duane Park Patisserie’s patissreies.
they do look like Hannah Anderson don’t they? And if they are, they’ll last for generations of hand me downs…
