It’s time once again to pick through the preliminary agendas for the monthly CB1 committee meetings. They’re subject to change, so if an issue is important to you, check here before heading off to the meeting. My comments are underlined. (If you only care about Tribeca, scroll down to the photo.)
9/4 Battery Park City Committee – 5:30 PM
• Tour of the Regatta – Composting facility and electric car station. Meet at 75 Battery Place, outside the Battery Park City Parks Conservancy office
9/4 Battery Park City Committee – 6:00 PM
Location: The Regatta (Tour at 5:30 p.m.), 21 South End Avenue, Conference Room
• Route 9A Status Update – NYS DOT (invited)

• Asphalt Green – Battery Park City Authority OK, people: This is the place to protest. I’m not sure CB1 has any sway over the BPCA, but local unhappiness seeps upward, toward the politicians who can do something about it. The fact that the meeting is at the Regatta—in south Battery Park City—is less than ideal, of course.
• Pier A – Battery Park City Authority
• Beginning the discussion of the Battery Park City Committee Priorities

The interesting wrinkle is the “health club” part of the agenda item, although for all I know any business with a pool might need such an approval.

• 66 Leonard Street, application for restaurant liquor license for Global Point NY d/b/a TBD – Resolution Global Point NY is an advertising agency based in the Flatiron. Could they really be opening a restaurant in the space formerly home to Matsugen and 66? Or is just a name overlap? (I’ll call Tuesday morning….)

FYI: It is possible I jumped the gun on the hotel. They’re requesting a *renewal* of a permit that had already been granted, so it could just be one of those why-not-keep-our-options-open things.
Erik, while we wait for a Hotel Costes to open at 443 Greenwich, what are your favorite Tribeca hotels for non-Citizens?
@J Allen: Funny you should ask! My parents will be in town in November, so I was just thinking about Tribeca hotels. Leaving aside the Greenwich (can’t afford it), I looked into the Smyth (where my grandmother-in-not-quite-law always stays), the Duane Park Hotel (where my friend Tracy recently happily stayed), and the Conrad. I had heard the Conrad had some great deals on weekends, and I guess the Monday and Tuesday before Thanksgiving count as days not popular with business (or leisure) travelers, because nonrefundable rooms started at $233, which is insane for NYC. And my general rule is that the newer the hotel — within reason — the better off you’ll be. So I took the $259 room that’s refundable and also include breakfast.
PS We’ve also recommended the Millenium [sic] and had people be quite happy, although it’s worth upgrading from the basic rooms. The corner rooms have awesome views
Thanks, we hadn’t even thought of the Conrad, that’s a great idea.
