The last we had heard was that the high-end Mexican restaurant considering 39 N. Moore was thinking twice about its plans. No more (pun intended): The proprietors are indeed going before Community Board 1’s Tribeca Committee on Wednesday in order to request approval for a liquor license. As you may recall, the chef involved is Enrique Olvera of Pujol in Mexico City, and even though the fare is far from margaritas and chips, residents and neighbors are concerned about the potential for noise. The Tribeca Committee meeting is Wednesday, Mar. 13, at 6 p.m. at 49-51 Chambers (room 709, and bring ID). I won’t be able to make it to the meeting, so if anyone is dying to go and take notes, please let me know. Between this and the proposed Hudson River Park tax, it promises to be a doozy.

The word is that the proprietors attempted to set up a meeting with residents, but were rebuffed. I’ve emailed both sides to see whether that’s accurate, and I’ll update here accordingly. In the meantime, of course, Cristina Dos Santos is still very much in business.

UPDATE: A resident vigorously disputed the notion that they did not meet with the applicants. UPDATE: One of the proprietors confirms they met with two members of the building’s board.
