••• Plein Sud, the restaurant in the Smyth hotel that’s officially debuting next month, was open today. (Read more about Plein Sud here.) The menu says “preview” at the top. The bunch and dinner menus are heavy on French classics (pissaladière, tarte flambée) and Frenchifications (le burger royale au fromage, indeed), as one might expect given the restaurant’s name. Click photos to enlarge well enough to read the names of the dishes, if not each of the descriptions.
••• Torly Kid is getting in the spirit of the Tribeca Film Festival: Starting Monday, “Each day we will post a movie trivia question at the store. If you get it right, we will give you 15% off your highest priced item. Facebook fans will be treated to extra hints!”
••• Takahachi Bakery, coming soon (presumably) to Murray Street, says it’ll be announcing its opening day this week.
••• The next Tribeca Meet-and-Greet will be Wednesday, May 5—¡¿margaritas?!—at BMCC Tribeca Performing Arts Center. From the invite: “For those who have not attended a Tribeca Meet and Greet, we have been meeting in a different Tribeca restaurant or business, about once a month. We’ve been able to exchange some ideas, do some networking, and have a drink with the neighbors. Just drop by and chat for a while. The most interesting encounters are among the most unlikely people. Frankly Wines at 66 West Broadway has kindly provided some beverages” [so probably not margaritas].
