Sad news from the Cosmopolitan Café‘s Craig Bero: The charming little café at 95 W. Broadway, has to close soon (to make way for the big Cafeteria restaurant coming to the old MaryAnn’s space to the north). The larger Cosmopolitan café, around the corner on Chambers, will remain open—”We’ll relocate the spirit and aesthetics of our little café and ice cream parlor,” says Craig.
This Wednesday, June 19, there will be two sales. First up, at 2:30 p.m., is an auction of kitchen equipment and fixtures. Then, from 4 to 8 p.m., comes a tag sale of vintage Tribeca, café, and soda fountain collectibles in the bigger café’s secret back room (enter around the corner at 125 Chambers). You’re also welcome to stop by Monday or Tuesday for a private viewing.
P.S. Craig says he’ll be treating visitors to the sale to ice cream: grasshopper (a family recipe for three generations), strawberry and Champagne punch, and Door County, Wisc., cherry crêpe.
