Seen & Heard: MTA Union Protests

••• A tipster writes in about the protests on Duane Street, which I had seen a few days ago but figured it was a one-off (and lately someone is always protesting something): “Every day the MTA union has been staging a protest on our street. The protest has been outside a residential building (105 Duane). Apparently an MTA bigwig lives there and they are angry at him for laying some people off in this economy […] The union people are very aggressive and nasty to anyone who walks into the building. Yelling at people with kids calling them ‘yuppies’ and screaming other obscenities. It is really sad and the cops aren’t doing anything….” It’s outrageous, and anyone on Duane, please email me at tribecacitizen@gmail.com as soon as they protest again and I’ll be right over. P.S. “Yuppie” is an obscenity?

••• BPC’s Teardrop Park South opens tomorrow at 10 a.m. with a ceremony.

••• Tonight at Sora Lella: A screening of Federico Fellini’s La Voce Della Luna; $85, includes four-course dinner and a glass of wine. (If you’re planning on using this deal—and you should!—tonight might not be the best night.)

••• Takahachi Bakery has postponed opening by a week.

••• Spa-related deals: Khushi‘s lavender spray, normally $12, is on sale for $8. And today’s Scoop St. deal is $35 for a 50-minute mani-pedi plus 20 minutes of reflexology at Tribeca Spa of Tranquility; it’s regularly $70. You have just under 36 hours to buy it.

••• On June 5, Torly Kid will host a Hula Hoop contest, with three age categories, including adults. (Did you know that Wham-O sells a weighted Hula Hoop to be used for weight loss? Now you do.)

••• And on May 20, Mondo Cane celebrates the opening of its Carl Auböck exhibit with a party from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. You’re invited.

  1. Came home today and no one had a word to say. I live in 105 Duane Street and walked through the Plaza and nothing. Big rat outside and people protesting. It’s NY
