••• Joe Isidori, co-owner of Black Tap on Broome, said things have been going so well that they’re going to open up the downstairs as more of a sit-down restaurant (with table service, appetizers, and so on). “Black Tap Down!” he said, confirming that the name is a reference to Black Hawk Down.

••• I stopped by City Hall Wine & Spirits on Church to ask if they had any thoughts about the stench outside (and to buy some Oban), and did they ever. They put the blame on the Dona Bella Pizza’s garbage, which they say leaks through the subway grate, creating an inadvertent cesspool. I questioned whether there’s enough liquid in said garbage to make such a pool (it’s visible), and I decided maybe it’s time to stop harassing the city’s DEP—since they’re ignoring me anyway—and move onto the MTA, which presumably takes responsibility for the drainage in its subway system. ••• Meanwhile, demolition at 43-51 Park Place is complete. The lot will be home to two buildings: A 39-story condo (renderings here) and a three-story Islamic cultural center (the latter designed by Jean Nouvel).
