••• The former Albella restaurant space at 10 Reade (corner of Elk) is being turned into a preschool, according to the worker D. spoke with the other day. Department of Buildings filings confirm it’ll be a school of some kind.
••• “On Saturdays there used to be a traffic cop on the corner of Canal and West St. to stop cars that are making the left onto canal from West St. from blocking the northbound traffic,” emailed a reader. “That officer is no longer there on Saturdays and what has resulted is 30 minutes of traffic getting out of Tribeca on either West St. or Hudson St. It is kind of insane. Hoping you could find out about this and try to see if the 1st precinct can help.” (My response was to go to the 1st Precinct Community Council Meeting and tell the NYPD directly, since they don’t necessarily read the site….)
••• A Brookfield Place ad in the Wall Street Journal this morning listed Hickey Freeman, which makes men’s suits, among the stores “coming soon.” That was news. Also, the little storefront at the corner of Vesey and North End, flanked by Parm, has Brookfield Place promotional papering in the windows, so something appears to be happening there.
••• From the guys at By Suzette, the creperie on Chambers: “We are getting La Colombe coffee from Thursday afternoon and we’ll offer free coffee on Monday (Sept. 14) all day and a free coffee with the purchase of a crepe for the rest of the week.”
••• Another shoot permit:
—Around Church/Duane for “Flapjack,” shooting Saturday. That’s what the Ghostbusters reboot is going by, because actually telling people might lead to massive disruptions of this very important cultural moment. It stars Kristen Wiig, Melissa McCarthy, and Kate McKinnon. The majority of the shoot is in Boston.
••• Press release: “Tickets are now on sale for the 1st Annual Taste of Battery Park City on Sunday, October 4, taking place at the Brookfield Place Waterfront Plaza.” The event benefits P.S. 89; tickets are $25 in advance, $35 at the event.

The paperwork for the school has an engineering firm that was done work with the NYC School Construction Authority, and other .gov email addresses. Is this going to be one of the new public schools the neighborhood was promised 2 years ago?
Saw that but figured the building is city-owned. Also, if anything, it’ll be another pre-K facility.
