••• As you know, the Friends of Washington Market Park Halloween Parade & Party is Sunday, Oct. 25 (and not on Oct. 31, because that conflicts with the Greenmarket). New this year: a pumpkin-carving contest on the day before (Saturday, Oct. 24). And I’m one of the judges!
This is a free community event with ribbons awarded in three categories: scariest, funniest and most creative. Bring your own pumpkin to enter, or just stop by with your family to enjoy the festive display.
• Bring your carved pumpkin to Washington Market Park between 5pm and 6pm.
• No carving will be permitted at the event.
• Electronic candles will be provided for illumination.
• Judging will begin at 6pm, and the winners will be announced shortly thereafter.Pumpkins may be taken home after the contest or may be kept in the park overnight for display during the park’s annual Halloween party the following day.
••• Whole Foods is now doing cultural programming…? Linda Perry and Sara Gilbert are evidently playing a lunchtime concert there on Saturday. (Oh, wait—it’s children’s music.)
••• I don’t know if we’ve seen this rendering for the Courtyard by Marriott going up at 133 Greenwich.
••• Speaking of FiDi hotels…. Here’s the Riff Downtown at 102 Greenwich. (I had only read about it not seen it.)
••• Last FiDi hotel item, I promise: The restaurant at the W New York Downtown went from BLT Bar & Grill to Lugo, but now it’s the Washington Bar & Grill (or something generic like that). I went in to ask, and I was told that they’re still deciding on a concept and that they should know by 2016. The hotel website, meanwhile, doesn’t mention the restaurant at all, and I’m not sure LDV Hospitality is involved.
