Seen & Heard: TAMA Studios

The TAMA team

••• TAMA Gallery has been reborn at TAMA Studios: “Same team, expanded design vision,” says the announcement. “Now providing interior design, consulting, and styling, custom TAMA furniture and home accessories, contemporary art, real estate.” They’re at 90 Hudson, by appointment.

••• Bit’z Kids is offering a free half-hour origami class for kids on Thursday, Aug. 26, at 4 p.m. Also, the store is looking for models (or at least photos of kids wearing Bit’z clothes: email them to info@bitzkidsnyc.com).

••• Through Sept. 15, buy a Back to School cupcake (it tastes like pencil erasers and chalk dust) at Billy’s Bakery in Tribeca and 15% goes to Free Arts NYC, which helps underserved kids.

••• I just have to say that I tried the Japanese dinner upstairs at Bouley Studio last week, and it was really, really good—if you like Japanese food, you should absolutely check it out some Thursday or Friday before the chefs move on. Also, since we’re on the topic, I can’t understand why the New York food critics haven’t paid more attention to Greenwich Grill. I doubt any other restaurant is serving Tokyo-Italian (I ate there two nights ago and had another excellent meal). It’s just like an Italian restaurant in Tokyo.

••• A reader who complained to the Parks Department about aggressive bicycle riders in the Warren Street path at City Hall Park—I happen to agree they should have to ride* walk their bikes, as it’s primarily a pedestrian passageway—got this response: “Thank you for your email regarding the bike lane at City Hall Park. I will have to send your request regarding the bike lane to DOT.  We do encounter some aggressive riders however, the idea of using Chamber Street was considered and rejected.” Anyone agree/disagree?

* I have developed a disconcerting habit of saying the exact opposite of what I mean.

  1. you should do a story on the new bikes that look like bikes but are basically mopeds. The delivery guys are using them all over the city now and are terrorizing the sidewalks and streets these days. They are also now using the pedestrian and bike paths in BPC

the delivery guys at Yawa sushi are the local nuisance. they fly up the block and have almost hit me multiple times
