  • I just spoke with the first precinct. They still have the dog. They gave him a bath and said he is very sweet and friendly. They have not had anyone come forward yet. If someone knows the dog and/or his owner, you should call the 1precinct at 212-334-0611. Hit "0" for the switchboard. They are keeping him there for now, and someone is helping care for him. The are really hoping to find his owner. But he might have to go to ASPCA if the owner is not found soon. — McGee on Seen & Heard: Setback in Rent-Stabilization Lawsuit

  • You should ask CB1 about any stipulations for the liquor license. In my experience that's easier than trying to figure it out via the SLA. And of course if noise is too loud, you should file a complaint with 311 during the event. — Erik Torkells on Seen & Heard: Setback in Rent-Stabilization Lawsuit

  • The bikes weren't there for a shoot, they were there for a promotion that included ridiculously amplified dance music for about 3 hours last night (and of course all the french doors were open so the we all could "enjoy" the Remy Martin DJ programming the musical atmosphere inside our apartments, even though the windows were closed). The only saving grace was that it was over by 9PM, unlike the private party at the restaurant 2 weeks ago that went past midnight with a similar sharing (although a much wider range) of musical tastes. How do look up the liquor license requirements regarding times the windows are allowed to be open / acceptability of amplified music, etc for Marc Forgione? I want lively places in the neighborhood, but I also want some peace in my home, which is 1/2 block away and around the corner, so the amps were clearly set too high. — N on Seen & Heard: Setback in Rent-Stabilization Lawsuit

  • Oliver Allen was kind of a 2nd cousin to me - his dad (Frederick Lewis Allen) was my great uncle; I haven't had a lot of contact with him over the years but some here and there and was able to visit with him a few winters ago at his flat on Hudson Street. I have read most of his written books and am honored to have known him and shared family history that binds us together. I would very much like to attend whatever memorial service as may be planned. Could you please give me details of time and place. Thank you. — Nathaniel Taylor on Remembering Oliver Allen

  • "But landlords have had a favorable 1997 opinion from DHCR [the State agency having authority over rent stabilization] at their disposal, too (which was also partly justified by Giuliani’s letter). These arguments were strong enough to win landlord UDR Inc. a favorable decision in a similar case last year and now it appears it’s enough for Kibel Companies." therealdeal.com/2017/05/09/state-supreme-court-judge-rules-in-favor-of-kibel-in-421g-case/ — James on Seen & Heard: Setback in Rent-Stabilization Lawsuit

  • Really, Joe? Could you list the events "like this" that go on every weekend that have the same loud music/noise and snarl traffic? Please be very detailed with EVERY weekend in a calendar year of the events that are just "like" the bike tour. Thanks. Appreciate it. — Jim Smithers on Some Improvement at the Five Boro Bike Tour

  • J. Davidson is a good enough writer, and I suppose the rhetorical turnaround is meant to indulge his sense of irony, but the argument here is stilted to the point of being cringe-inducing. First, we all know that many of these apartments are purchased as investments or to stash cash - that's been documented extensively by the NYT and others - which explains the emptiness and quietude. But to characterize wholly desirable things like high ceilings and private workout facilities as oppressive, and the most privileged people in the world as unfortunates, strikes me as nothing more than verbal calisthenics. I just can't discern the value in it. — David G. Imber on In the News: Prison Towers
