The restaurant from Japan didn't work out for the former Nobu space. A friend has an office in the bldg. They negotiated for 9 months before the deal fell through- so now the bldg is jacking up the monthlies for everyone in the building because they didn't expect the vacancy. That thingamabob is probably the cooling tower, and those louvers probably close. Just in case of another terror attack, the louvers can close and prevent any toxic dust etc. from entering the AC system and recirculate throughout the building. Poke, childrens' stores and steakhouses - this neighborhood is becoming inundated. BTW, a foodie friend tells me that the best steakhouse in Japan is likely to open a place in the neighborhood soon. Rohin, I live on Greenwich St. between Desbrosses/Watts and it's a very residential, not industrial area. There are already a lot of drunk and loud people leaving Tribeca rooftop parties that urinate and vomit on the Street (Desbrosses), and cause quite a disturbance.
