I know this letter was printEd a year ago but it caught my eye because I was just thinking today that Whole Foods is always out of certain organic prodycts. The rest is sprayed with pesticides... that's what they call conventional. I go to get organic foods and their produce is mostly not. I also found one of the follow up comments here bordering on racism... regarding who are they targeting with their ethnic hot meals and mentioning the nannys are probably purchase them. Wow. First off.... did you take a real survey in the store? Second so you think only certain people live downtown?!. I've been here for 40 years and it might surprise you that the people who built and fought for lower Manhattan were made up of all races and creeds. And in fact we're struggling artists and lower to middle income people. Your comment is offensive. You may be happier in Your part of Florida. Commercial leases are so expensive only the big stores can afford it. Or the big banks. Or the chain restaurants. I like some convenience but its changing our little neighborhood. I know that shopping at a discount retailer is verboten in posh TriBeCa, but I'd personally love a Marshall's in the area! The 8-15th floor condos have lot line windows on the South side, and are largely hallways, utilities etc. I'm not sure about the upper floors - perhaps the new building will be set back. It will be hell. I live at 80 Chambers and the Chambers Street construction on the block between Church and Broadway took years! It as insufferable noise, mess, and disruption. I grew up on Franklin St. around the corner from El Teddy's. That place was so mystical it is forever etched in my childhood brain. You forgot to mention the statue of liberty's crown, which peaked out behind the restaurant's facade(I wasn't old enough to realize it wasn't actually the statue of liberty behind there, but I was old enough to wonder how she could be in two places at once.)
