  • Actually, a lot of recent evidence (number of indie bookstores thriving, % of total book market taken up by ebooks stagnant, etc.) shows that indepndent boom stores are not being destroyed by Amazon. This is just one article on the subject but there are plenty of others http://theweek.com/articles/573874/4-reasons-why-independent-bookstores-are-thriving — jammy sod on Brookfield Place’s First Casualty

  • I feel sorry for Posman. That was a really nice store, with little padded nooks in the children's area specifically meant for reading. They closed their Grand Central location recently as well. The bookstore business is just so tough to be in due to Amazon and e-books. Hopefully their last 2 locations are doing OK. I wish them well. — Noah on Brookfield Place’s First Casualty

  • I asked one today and she said it was a "private event" Monday and Tuesday. I'm afraid the flowers will wilt by then. The Hermès perfume store in Brookfield is getting ready to open Wednesday at 10:00 am so maybe it's part of that? It's really delightful to walk down the path under the trees. Also re fashion week: they're setting up a runway in the underground concourse between PATH and Brookfield and it will be closed at some point on Wednesday. Hope that slurry wall holds. — Hudson River on Seen & Heard: The Oculus Lights Up at Night

  • Must disagree with you. My husband and I were pleasantly surprised by the quality of the food at Pier A--it exceeded our expectations. Just as highly satisfied on our second visit. — Manhattanmommie on In the News: In Praise of “Tribute in Light”

  • The downstairs food at Pier-A is pre-made and sits around under heat lamps. It is godawful. Stay away from this crap. — Crap on In the News: In Praise of “Tribute in Light”

  • I find it fascinating that the Post article says Tribeca wasn't a safe place to live 30 years ago. I've been here more than 35 years and at that time, the First Precinct had one of the lowest person-on-person crime rates in the 5 boroughs. Frankly, it wasn't until the Millenials started moving in that the area attracted the attention of the bad guys. — Makes you go "hmmm..." on In the News: In Praise of “Tribute in Light”

  • The newly formed St. Peter - Our Lady of the Rosary Roman Catholic Parish is holding a special Mass and reception this Sunday, Sept 13th at 11am at Our Lady of the Rosary (also known as the Seton Shrine) to celebrate our happy merger. Everyone is invited to celebrate the connection of our three historic locations (St. Peter's Church, Our Lady of the Rosary Church and St. Joseph's Chapel) and our three communities coming together as one. — Aileen Ghee on Seen & Heard: “A Real-Life Room Escape Game”

  • Joe has done right by me forever, but for the one snafoo that had him sending an arrangement overloaded with flowers known as "Billy Balls" to a woman I'd been dating for a couple of weeks. It's been about a year since then, I was just in today to send an arrangement without Billy Balls to the same girlfriend. I'll give those to her later. Billy — Billy on Spotlight: Langdon Florist
