Steve, Agree with the Pizza. Best in the city. Robin In the last few years the Lobster was not as good but they had a Lobster roll that was magnificent. I worked at Pearl Paint for 29 years. Yesterday was my last day, along with 38 co-workers. Over the last week and a half, so many customers, many, who have been, shopping there for 20, 30, 40, 50 years have come in and given us words of encouragement and expressed their sorrow, at the fact that we would no longer be there to help them. It has been a very stressful week and a half for me and many others. May the Pearl Paint Flagship store, R.I.P. — Robert on Are Pearl Paint’s Days Numbered?
The building was zoned as a forge way back when, and that's how the artist intended to use it. He made a beautiful floor design at the interior entryway --a wonderful combination of concrete forms outlined by iron zigzagged lines. The clanking we may have heard out on the street during the years he was productive around was nothing compared to the din around us now. — ktaverna on Unknown3
In addition to these abuses, city employees who get parking permits, often use those for personal purposes. A neighbor of ours has free protected street parking near and around Barclays Street because he works for a city agency that gave him a pass. Since he doesn't need the car for work, he enjoys that spot at the cost of tax payers. There are lots of city employee parking spots there for people who don't need to use cars for their work. We have public transportation in NYC. — Cami on Seen & Heard: NYPD Double-Parking
don't even get me started on cops breaking the law. i could easily make a tumblr of all the times i've been the NYPD running red lights with their siren off, driving their cars without a seat belt (!!), talking on their cell phone while driving, smoking in uniform, sleeping in their car....the list goes on and on. if these guys don't have to follow the rules they enforce, then why should I? I wish I could give a cop a ticket for breaking the law.. — HH on Seen & Heard: NYPD Double-Parking
Totally agree that they're maddening, too. It's a perverse logic that allows the upholders of the law to think they alone can flout it. — Erik Torkells on Seen & Heard: NYPD Double-Parking

So glad to hear Ponte's is coming back. miss that Lobster and the pizza. If their smart they kept John Lucca on payroll and he will open the new place. — Steve on New Plans for 27 Desbrosses
We had a terrific experience at Daruma-Ya tonight. Firstly, I will say that I loved how pretty the back room used to be so was prepared to be disappointed by the new darker décor. Not so; the replacement painting is lovely and although the ceiling is darkened, it shines and the lighting level is perfect. Service was attentive, informative and responsive - couldn't have been better. We added a few extra dishes mid-meal and no-one was ruffled. The sashimi was fresh, the oysters flavorful and corn tempura with pepper was so good, we were ready to order more. Everything else was also good and the soba, while I'm no expert, was a terrific way to end the meal. We'll be back. — Andrea on First Impressions: Daruma-Ya

With all that time off to relax, the angry lobster is going to be really Angry now that he's pressed (pun intended) back into service!... Kidding aside - Good to see this long standing fixture coming back to the neighborhood — Rohin on New Plans for 27 Desbrosses
Regarding the double parking on Duane. I live on one of those buildings in the picture and the firemen also drive on that sidewalk (due to their double parking). Once, I was coming out of my building with my daughter and a car zoomed right by us on the sidewalk! My friend's daughter has also almost been hit on that same sidewalk. I like living very close to the firestation but I just wish they would be more careful. — Nicole on Seen & Heard: Juice Press Is Open
