I don't remember the last time I had sticker shock, but that place is crazy expensive. $10 for a small cup of yogurt with nuts. Wow. — Chyara on First Impressions: Juice Press
I was beyond disappointed. The service here is quite awful. (The staff never asked how my food was; they seemed unsure about the menu; they argued very rudely with a table next to me after the table received the wrong order and said the kitchen was now closed). The food was good; and living in Tokyo, I agree the soba noodles were the perfect balance of flavor and texture. HOWEVER, if the management cannot get their act together, I will hesitate to come back here and instead head to a place in the East Village where the prices are better and the staff seem less aloof. I've eaten at Sushi Azabu many times, and I've noticed the same with the staff. The sushi chefs behind the counter (most of them) are on point; but sadly that's not enough for me to make this a "local" spot. — JDC on First Impressions: Daruma-Ya
22 River Terrace - NY Post article Steve, Thanks so much for bringing to light this terrible ordeal all of us at 22 River Terrace are going through. I would like to mention that Centurion is not doing anything to help tenants find alternative apartments nor are they extending anyone past their lease date. They are letting us leave early if someone wants to, but that is the extent of their help. According to Centurion themselves and the building’s managing agent Douglas Elliman, 22 River will not get AG approval until at least November or December, not July, and by that time the building will be 100% emptied of original tenants. Not one resident will have the right to buy their apartment at the offered inside price. Centurion started renewing rental leases in 0ctober 2013, after they bought the building, which contained the 90-day eviction/lease cancellation clause. While there may be some loophole in the law that allows them to do this, it clearly violates the spirit of the law, and all moral and ethical components. — stevenK on In the News: Police Officer on Rampage

Yes, that's a different one. — Erik Torkells on Seen & Heard: Juice Press Is Open
Mmm. Are there 2 Juice Press-s opening in the hood. 'Cause I just passed e one off Greenwich on Warren and it decidedly was *NOT* open for business as windows were covered top to bottom in craft paper. — Diane on Seen & Heard: Juice Press Is Open
Firemen throughout the city have always been able to double park, park at hydrants, pretty much wherever they want close by the firehouse. They can also ticket anyone else who does it saying it is a safety hazard impeding their ability to get the trucks out. — TribecaMom on Seen & Heard: Juice Press Is Open

Looking forward to the visit. Never realized there were any Grand Banks Schooners left, after the demise of the S/V Polynesia and the Windjammer Barefoot Cruises. I was privileged in the 1990s to have the helm ( had to stand on a box ) of the Polynesia at sunset out of Anguilla. Have new camera. Will shoot rigging. Especially with sailors aloft. Br. All the best to Craig. I miss his restaurants and seeing him around the neighborhood. Terrible loss for the neighborhood. — TribecaMom on Seen & Heard: Craig Bero’s New Restaurant

I hope they don't get that through landmarks, it's a really ugly design. I'm not averse to social meccas but I agree that this looks like a bad mall. — Liat on What’s Really Happening at J&R

Book club - @ 508 (it's written on one of the menus)... and not quite Tribeca. — Bored on Seen & Heard: Roof-Deck Envy
Yikes. That is ghastly - and cheap-looking. That's an important corner with many wonderful buildings adjacent - and city hall/city hall park. - and with so much money gushing into the neighborhood (like it or not) they should design something with a more sophisticated and enduring aesthetic. That rendering looks like a post-modern mall from the 90s. — anne on What’s Really Happening at J&R
Funny you should ask that. At last night's meeting, someone on the committee pointed out that the gay pride events, while noisy, were not helped by coming amid the Pier 26 concert season. And the Hudson River Park rep confirmed that there was no concert series—and I"m pretty sure she said "this summer" (which made me wonder if the HRPT isn't working on a plan for 2015). — Erik Torkells on CB1 Tribeca Committee: The Unofficial Minutes (April 2014)
Any chance that the concert series will come back if they fix the noise problem? — TribecaMom on CB1 Tribeca Committee: The Unofficial Minutes (April 2014)

What a treat Canal St was in the 60's & 70's! All those plastic and findings places, hardware stores and Pearl Paint.
