  • I have lots of relatives who would love to live in upscale Tribeca who cannot afford the rent so they find cheaper places in Brooklyn and Queens. I don't understand the logic of using public funds to house poor homeless people in some the the world's most expensive real estate instead of someplace cheaper. — Lowrider on Update on the shelter coming to 105 Washington

  • My son absolutely adores the bakery's Brioche. It has been his little ritual before Gymnastics for 4 years now. We are so happy for Madeline and this change. She's been in the neighborhood for quite sometime and it is one of the places in Tribeca we love the most. Feels like we enter to a friend's home that has just baked the most delicious cookies. Cozy and happy. Best of luck Madeline ! — Les Brioches on Duane Park Patisserie will add new hours with a new menu

  • Belle Reve also took down their shed which was essentially a building extension. Also glad to have the wider sidewalk back. Although again, I'm all for outdoor seating done right, which to me means European café style: Widen the sidewalks as needed, and allow the (removable) seating and tables directly adjacent to the sidewalk. Where feasible, allow a (perhaps retractable) awning. Simple, elegant, allows cleaning of the streets and sidewalk, no ugly sheds, can be put away completely when the place closes for the night, etc. — Marcus on Dining sheds at Tamarind have been removed

  • Zutto,,,,, a shed that literally has never been used. i won't eat there anymore because a crappy shed out front, for me is always a real turnoff.... — A Tribeca Parent on Dining sheds at Tamarind have been removed

  • Amazing how seeing these disappear make us in the neighborhood so happy. I hope the other restaurants that are behind get the message. — C on Dining sheds at Tamarind have been removed

  • Throw in Rigor Hill and One White Street - there's definitely not 8 feet of walking space there.. I have no idea how Zutto still has their shed up.. Happy to see Sarabeth's taking theirs down yesterday - Progress!! — B.Thompson on Dining sheds at Tamarind have been removed

  • Agreed. It has coincided with the new buildings on the park. I literally had to yell at a mature woman letting her dog pee on the No Pets sign on the south east corner. — David on City Hall Park launches into a new era

  • Wondered if anyone knew.... It was my understanding that there were tenants at 41-43 Beekman - but somehow they left? "The city is also developing a long-term shelter for 170 single men at 41-43 Beekman, a five-story residential building between William and Gold" While understanding the need for housing/shelter for people who are unhoused, it would be very troubling if the process meant that others were losing their housing.... (Interestingly the Beekman site is by a school, a firehouse, Pace and the hospital) In the meantime, the super-tall billionaire buildings keep going up.... Seems to me the City should insist that the billionaire buildings provide affordable units - there is plenty of space and the owners are mostly not ever there... — Mat on Update on the shelter coming to 105 Washington

  • Would there be any support to reopen the grassy area near chambers and Broadway as a dog area? It was open for several years and was nice to have a green space. — Rosenmax on City Hall Park launches into a new era

  • Give people a chance. You can always protest later as they did effectively on the Upper West Side. I volunteered in a homeless shelter for 3 years running several creative programs. Lives were changed, including mine. — Cia on Update on the shelter coming to 105 Washington

  • It's sad the condition City Hall Park has been allowed to deteriorate to. In little more than 20 years the hardscape is in horrible condition and it appears little effort is exerted to maintain it. And the landscape...well, it's pathetic. It's admirable these two groups want to make a difference but it's going to require a great deal more money and commitment than either of then can likely bring to bear. — Makes You Go Hmmmm.... on City Hall Park launches into a new era

  • Sorry, you're right. I just get frustrated with the immediate and reflexible dismissal of anything that anyone might construe as an inconvenience to their lives, without a thought to the broader society we're trying to live in. Your point is a fair one, though. Thanks. — malcolm on Update on the shelter coming to 105 Washington

  • Malcolm, I don’t think humanity has anything to do with it. I can claim that YOU have no humanity for the people/families/local businesses that will be affected by this new shelter. Just because you care about one side, doesn’t mean people who care about the other side are morally lacking. — Ian on Update on the shelter coming to 105 Washington

  • Level 1 sex offenders, or sex offenders who appealed to be reclassified from Level 2/3 to Level 1 will be allowed at the shelter, within 200 feet of the nearest school (China Institute) - this is mentioned here during CB1's 5/18/23 meeting: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=teiWvA4G9fE — Battery park local on Update on the shelter coming to 105 Washington

  • Seems to be an uptick in people bringing dogs into grass to pee and poop - even though area is cordoned off. The entitlement is astounding — Mat on City Hall Park launches into a new era

  • This is gross. People who think this clearly don't have humanity. But I'm sure you'd be okay with this as long as it was in another neighborhood; likely a different borough. And this location is not for sex offenders. — malcolm on Update on the shelter coming to 105 Washington

  • All the more reason for communities to support LEGAL/LICENSED shops like this one. — TriRes on Neighbors on Duane Park are organizing against cannabis shop

  • Why do they think it’s ok to add more homeless shelters in fidi? Tour streets are already filled with mentally disturbed assaulting women and sometimes children. We pay to house these people who make me and many other people feel unsafe in our own neighborhood. The mentally disturbed and past sex offenders need to be institutionalized and not put near our schools!! People who think this is okay clearly don’t have kids — Downtown15yrs on Update on the shelter coming to 105 Washington
