  • We tried to save that graffiti. To no avail. The owners of tthat building in the steam punk alley wanted the wall repaired and painted over. Now even Cortlandt Alley is upscale and gentrified. — Bruce Ehrmann on Tribeca corner named for Argentinian rocker

  • Love it. I hope they can pull it off. Always thought this would be a great candidate for a residential conversion given the floorplates aren’t too big and there is lots of natural light even on the West facade. Good luck! — Chris on Still Nosy: Any update on 250 Church?

  • Today is Election Day. We already voted ourselves into this mess of unsafe streets. And I guess we’ll do it again today. Our legislators and prior Governor Cuomo passed the so-called criminal justice reform laws. And it is impossible to dispute that our new DA Bragg is light on crime. By law, the miscreant who attacked that girl, if charged with misdemeanor assault, is required to be released at his arraignment, to likely victimize someone else before he is arrested again. And he will probably be lightly treated by DA Bragg. Our city council member Marte wants to defund the police, by “reducing the size and scope of the NYPD.” You can google his position on the issue of public safety. The criminal recidivists, career criminal opportunists, and violent mentally ill don’t deserve third and fourth chances. Yet our votes for our politicians let crime run rampant. Look in the mirror. — Brian Kennedy on Girl assaulted walking home from school in Fidi

  • We live above the newly opened F45 Training Union Square NYC and it has been an utter disaster. They play loud, booming, heart-stopping music for their classes and the instructors are amplified above that. The sound levels far exceed the city-regulated sound levels, registering over 55-60 dbs. They have 4-5 classes a day starting at 6 AM-7:30 PM. Some of the upstairs tenants met with the F45 Training Union Square NYC management team and owner (Club Sports Group LLC) to come to a compromise, only to find that the F45 Training Union Square NYC Management Team and Owners had no intentions of respecting our living space and our covenant of quiet enjoyment. If anything the music/noise has gotten louder and more intrusive. We cannot work from home, sleep comfortably, or even watch TV without disruption. One cannot escape the pounding music, it is an assault on one's ears and nerves. Many of us have to leave our homes in order to think clearly, the music is that loud, and at this point, the rising sound levels seem deliberate. The tenants met to try to figure out our options. We asked F45 staff to lower the music - they told us to call the landlord - the landlord told us to call 311 - most of our complaints are being ignored as the police say that they cannot do much. We are stuck in a nightmarish loop. Tribeca, they are now coming for you, consider yourself warned. — Jane on F45 gym coming to Duane and Broadway

  • Fully agree they should be free to choose their own color. Mystifying that they would want to be the same color as a Howard Johnson's. Also think they probably will reconsider and repaint. — Leo on Warren Street Hotel scheduled to open February 1

  • Glaring omission: Estancia 460, which has been here serving GREAT food since '90s..having survived 9/11, Sandy flood, and covid pandemic...a neighborhood treasure with superb food. — Tribeca resident on In the News: Picking favorites among neighborhood restaurants

  • I don’t care for the color scheme but I strongly feel it’s the owner’s right to choose what color they want their building to be and not the City (and especially not nosy neighbors). • Reply to IPN Resident: A few corrections. I’m a 45 year long IPN resident. It was a great integrated community and it still is. The swimming pool at 40 Harrison St has been here since the buildings were finished. I remember swimming there, the fee was $100/year. It had a sauna and a steam room and was open to all, for the fee. It became too expensive to maintain and it was closed after a few years. Now it’s Imagine Swimming. The gym at 40 Harrison St is new since Stellar management took over. Annual memberships were open to all for about 15 years. It is definitely not just for “low rent” residents, same with the amenity room and speed cycle room. I totally agree with the plumbing problems. There are more people using the same old plumbing now than when IPN was originally built. That’s why there are constant shut offs. And worst of all, there is no insulation between apartments. Nada! I can hear my neighbors turning on their faucet and showering. And the apartment above mine must be a bowling alley… But back to the proposed buildings. I thought when IPN was constructed, they bought the air rights of the buildings that were here originally and in Washington Market Park. What about the garages below the plaza space, will they be destroyed and how? Yes, this could be a major disaster. — C’est moi! on Independence Plaza planning new tower?

  • THANK YOU! I just went through dozens of replies and PRESCOT'S came up! That was the place. Wow, whatta joint! They had "illegal" jukebox dancing. It was a the diviest dive bar in the city and you could dance til closing. I loved this place! — Joe on When Tribeca Was Small (Part Two)

  • Hi, Can anyone recall... I'm wracking my brain to remember a wild dive bar c.1970s that allowed dancing--it was big and way over west by Greenwich or Washington Street down where Independence Plaza was soon to be built. It was not even called Tribeca back then. It had a one-word Irish name. No, it was not Magoo's or Puffy's or Barnabus Rex or Area or Mudd Club or Wetlands or Manhattan Ocean Club... I would appreciate any response. Thank you! — Joe on When Tribeca Was Small (Part Two)
