Are all these servicing the tourist industry? — G on A slew of state cannabis dispensaries are coming to the district
Saw your comments above. Agree most of cops are on their phones these days most don't care want to do their 20 and collect the pension. Need stop and frisk and take restraints off the cops to do what they need to do and bust heads when needed but first they have to entice people who really want to be cops and do policing to join. And when arrested let them rot in Rikers. But with clown mayor, the CCCP running city council, and Hopeless Hochul there are dark days ahead. — AnnieSprinkle on 7-Eleven clerks take matters into their own hands

I wonder if they have considered moving the school rather than closing. FWIW we did not consider sending our child there because of the location/neighborhood (which has seen a sharp turn negative since COVID), even though everyone we met from the school was lovely and seemed to really care for the kids. — FormerFiDi on Downtown Little School will close at the end of the school year
Shame that Tribeca killed yet another promising business in its area — B on Barcade coming to part of the old Century 21 space
Not sure that the vehement opposition makes sense here given context and location; this is about the best type of retail tenant (i.e., upscale, arts-focused restaurant and neighborhood bar) one could hope for in this neighborhood, and the primary reason that living in NYC is 10x better than any other American city. Totally reasonable to negotiate hours/noise/etc. parameters, but otherwise the residents in opposition here seem to suggest, incorrectly, that “North TriBeCa” is and remains an exclusively residential neighborhood with nothing but daytime retail. NIMBYism at its worst, and a recipe for less safety at night (i.e., eyes on the street) while walking around. — Reader on Reade on Neighbors fight restaurant proposal for Laight and Washington

My CookUnity subscription is $13.59 per meal plus taxes and fees. Usually average about $73 for 4 meals per week so about $18.25 a meal. Overall very happy with the quality and choice of meals. — TribecaMom on Seen & Heard: Name the river’s Waste Shark

Heh. Fair enough -- well, these guys are both hot-tempered artists, what ya gonna do? In any case, I don't really share your opinion that DeNiro is being somehow shortchanged just because a solitary corner in TriBeCa went to someone other than him. There's room for everyone. He seems to be doing just fine. — Alex on Tribeca corner named for Argentinian rocker
A true shame that this wasn’t seen as an ideal addition to Laight Street. The concept seems fitting, and what a better place than North Tribeca to showcase such an incredible collection of one-of-a-kind art. Shame on these residents for making it so difficult for this tenant. It's not an easy business as it is. And I agree with Robert above, you live on LAIGHT STREET - a highway. Quite laughable, really. — William M on Neighbors fight restaurant proposal for Laight and Washington
I wonder why the proposed tenant didn’t go forward with the plan to open at 175 Franklin. It says that she couldn’t reach an agreement with the landlord. Maybe there was a reason for that. It seems that the landlord in this case is an absentee landlord who might not care what goes in there as long as the rent is paid. — Elizabeth on Neighbors fight restaurant proposal for Laight and Washington
Come on people!! This is NYC. Sometimes it is good and sometimes not so good. We have tried locking everyone up who commits any indiscretion (let’s face it we have the highest incarceration rate in the ‘civilized world’) Did it work?. The statistics show that crime is higher in ‘red’ States than in ‘blue’ States. Are the NYPD perfect? No, of course not. It is so easy to come up with complaints but solutions are few and far between. Perhaps suggesting how the problems outlined could be solved would be helpful instead of just telling people to move. If you think voting for a different party will solve the problem then I think you are a little naïve. They never have done before so why now? — Bob on 7-Eleven clerks take matters into their own hands
Well, crime happens in rural areas also. Per capita it may or may not be worse, depending on the area. So one may be more likely to be victim of crime in some rural areas. Gun deaths may be higher in rural areas (again, per capita). https://www.nbcnews.com/health/health-news/map-gun-death-rates-lower-cities-than-rural-counties-rcna81462 More to the point, regardless of the area, rural, suburban, urban, exurban, lunar, sub-lunar, etc. - Isn't it reasonable to want to reduce, and even eliminate, crime? That seems an essential goal of society. Perhaps we can never reach zero murders (for example), but it is certainly fair to aim to reduce the body count as much as possible (similar point for other crimes). — Marcus on 7-Eleven clerks take matters into their own hands
It must take some impressive mental gymnastics to live on the street which is the 24/7 primary exit from the Holland Tunnel and somehow still manage to complain about the voices of people leaving local restaurants as a disturbance — Robert on Neighbors fight restaurant proposal for Laight and Washington
Last I checked Masa is now $950 per person. When is the $450 pricing from? The same group also did open a casual restaurant next door and you can walk out with a full meal for less than $100 per person (including wines!). — H on The neighborhood gains another Michelin star
Charly also sounds like a real gem in his personal life. What's your point? From 2000: https://www.mtv.com/news/cwezi9/international-beat-baaba-maal-charly-garcia-ricky-martin "Eccentric Argentine pop star Charly Garcia, jailed over the weekend for skipping a court hearing, is in good spirits and has even performed for some of his fellow inmates, his assistant said on Monday, as reported by Reuters. Garcia was arrested on Saturday after failing to show up in court to answer charges that he and a bodyguard beat up a newspaper photographer outside a bar last month. ..." From 2007 https://bjorksjoyoustunes.medium.com/the-time-charly-garc%C3%ADa-attacked-bj%C3%B6rk-in-argentina-ea9c71f87c1a "Kabusacki states that [in 2007] Charly García was excited to chat and share ideas with Björk. However, the artist seemed busy chatting with her own group of friends, paying little attention to the Argentine idol . " 'It was already about three in the morning. Björk goal to talk to the Icelandic woman next to her and Charly in front of her looking at her, trying to get her attention and Björk didn’t give her a ball,' said Kabusacki. Thus, he added that soon the Argentine lost his patience when he was ignored. " Apparently, Charly would have spoken directly to the artist and said: 'I have perfect pitch.' Björk would have reacted without much interest and just replied, ‘Oh, really?’ After this, Charly lost his patience and with a knife he broke the glass of champagne that Björk was holding . “ 'You don’t even reach my heels,' Charly Garcia would have said to Björk after her act. After this, the artist would have been paralyzed without knowing what to do or how to respond to the Argentine’s action. Kabusacki apologized and security quickly arrived, so they had to leave. [...]" From 2008: https://peopleenespanol.com/article/charly-garcia-detained-attacking-actors-his-guitar/ "Once again, Argentinean singer Charly García is in trouble. The musician was detained after two Colombian actors accused him of aggression –claiming Garcia hit them with his guitar during a concert in Buenos Aires, Argentina. "The incident took place last Thursday evening in a bar in Buenos Aires. While in concert, 56-year-old García got off the stage and supposedly used his guitar as a weapon and hit the two actors –both of whom are living in that country because they are under contract to work with an Argentinean producer. "The 'Estoy verde' singer was detained and held in custody for four hours. It's still unknown why the singer behaved so violently. Also in the to-be-revealed category: the names of the actors who are thought to be very popular." — james on Tribeca corner named for Argentinian rocker

The reality is that northwest Tribeca is growing up and attracting more activity, and that should be considered a good thing. The concept sounds like a tasteful & elevated use of the space and I agree with the lawyer - it could be far worse, cannabis, sex shop, etc. Ultimately the building owner should be allowed to lease the space to whoever they want and in this case the tenant offering to spend $200k to soundproof the space is a very considerate gesture and will go a long ways to mitigating future issues. — Df on Neighbors fight restaurant proposal for Laight and Washington
I love how when someone complains about crime getting terrible you have a quasi commenter saying move out. Ok, I should move out because people are committing crimes and NO ONE is holding them accountable. We should just let the city get worse and worse. You sir/madam are probably that person who jumps on the band wagon of protests to then go steal (smash and grab) when they rush stores. You sir/madam are probably someone who loves to break the law/violations and expect everyone to just deal. No sir/madam you go back to your neck of the woods or gutter and pull that stunt from where you came from. — Sandra on 7-Eleven clerks take matters into their own hands
Will also agree with the above sentiment. I can even get $200 or $250 per person for a special occasion omakase but $450 is Masa pricing (and three stars if you're counting) and not what Tribeca needs. I can go to Nakazawa for a high end experience and it's under $200 pp for a fantastic Omakase. I am sure the owners read Tribeca Citizen, and if you really want to appeal to the locals, this pricing isn't it. — Michael D on The neighborhood gains another Michelin star

Community boards should not exist. If not for bars and restaurants NYC would not exist. The people fighting this should leave the city if they're concerned about normal city noise.
