  • Soon these stores will have to put all products...and staff...behind bulletproof glass, like some liquor stores do. Or they will simply move all retail online. — Marcus on Rite Aid in Brookfield is closing

  • I hope the Community Board asks Zona to remove those ugly, dirty sheds that dominate the entire corner of Harrison Street as well as Greenwich. These plywood boxes are no longer necessary and do not meet codes- 8 ft of walking space for pedestrians- here it appears to be less than 6 ft. They are an eyesore that need to come down. — K on Community Board 1 agendas for January

  • I would love to get in touch with Jennifer Kotter since I have some photos of Bob Janz and some unique drawings he did for me that she might like to see. I was good friends with Bob in the 80s when I lived on Chambers Street. I took him to my home in Cape Cod for the summers to feed him and get him out of the heat of NYC. Toni — Antoinette Steinacker on Robert Janz, who painted the streets and sidewalks of the neighborhood, has died

  • Shoplifting is out of control, not just the teeny bopper stealing a soda. I’ve been in Rite Aids where they jump the counter to pharmacy, 4 times. Organized crime comes in- fills up a shopping cart, goes out the fire exit, picks up the cart and shoves the whole thing in their van- over 6 times. Or rams a car through the front window to steal cigarettes. Or yanks the ATM out of the front window….3 times that I know of. Sorry your neighborhood store is closing. It’s just not safe for the employees or customers. — Nancy from Seattle on Rite Aid in Brookfield is closing

  • Walgreens/Duane Reade has two outlets in the Oculus and one of them (right at the PATH entrance) has a pharmacy and can be accessed from the old Rite Aid at Brookfield Place without ever stepping outside. — Luis Vazquez on Rite Aid in Brookfield is closing

  • Unfortunate as I recall countless times that I was saved having needed emergency bandaids, greeting cards, snacks, and all sorts of random bits. True, R/A seems to be reducing its footprint across the city and it hasn’t had as much foot traffic as did pre-C. Can’t imagine the rent is cheap either. Sad to see it go and I hope something worthwhile takes the space instead of being a ghost corridor. — Cordcutter on Rite Aid in Brookfield is closing

  • We are so sorry to hear this news. We absolutely love going to. L’Angolo. The meals were always wonderful, and the staff was exceptional. Hope you find a place soon. Madeline — Madeline Brooks on L’Angolo Tribeca has closed

  • My husband and I used to live on Duane Street and were big fans of Roc, ate there all the time. We were incredibly disappointed when Roc closed. The reason according to owner Rocco --- couldn't reach an agreement with owner. As Rocco said "how much can you charge for a plate of spaghetti." Who is this owner? — Arlene Weltman on L’Angolo Tribeca has closed

  • I've seen 5 of them close Because of shoplifting we'll be going back to mom & pops soon — Adam Wolf on Rite Aid in Brookfield is closing

  • If you feel you could do a better job, then APPLY! Applications are available now! — Frances on L’Abeille will add a sushi restaurant from chef Eiji Ichimura

  • There are Liquor License guidelines for Tribeca and each neighborhood: https://www.nyc.gov/assets/manhattancb1/downloads/pdf/ll-stips/CB1%20Liquor%20License%20Guidelines.pdf Frankly, giving the business two years to succeed and be a good neighbor is a better attitude than no and listening to fear mongering. Even if a CB says no, the SLA may grant the license anyway and then the community has lost any leverage they had. A yes with stipulations can be a balanced answer. Also for the commentators - Community Board applications are open if you want to donate your time and talents. It is an unpaid public servant opportunity that you have to interview in order to be appointed. Check out the MBPO website for details. — TK on L’Abeille will add a sushi restaurant from chef Eiji Ichimura

  • Then apply for a seat on the board if you think you are more qualified! — Frances on L’Abeille will add a sushi restaurant from chef Eiji Ichimura

  • And yet Walgreens/Duane Reade has 12 locations in FiDi/Tribeca and CVS, which had just one location until recently, has opened two new ones in the last couple of months. The reality is that Rite-Aid has been reducing its footprint in the city for years. Maybe CVS can take this spot over, as it's a shame that BPC doesn't have any other options, where FiDi and Tribeca have many. The Oculus Walgreens has a Pharmacy. — Luis Vazquez on Rite Aid in Brookfield is closing

  • My wife and I dined here at least once a week (sometimes twice) for the past two years. We were devastated when we found out about the closing. This is going to be a hard place to replace…from the beautiful decor, the warm and friendly service and the fabulous food as well. When the owners reopen (hopefully sooner than later), we will be the first to make a reservation. A very sad way to begin 2023 but I’m hopeful they will open a new space soon. Thank guys for so many great memories and so many great meals. — Walter Schick on L’Angolo Tribeca has closed

  • This is a huge loss for the neighborhood. Tony, Arte and the whole staff were always warm and welcoming, and the food was always excellent. We ate there often, and had many family events there. They will be missed, but we are staying optimistic that they will find a new space soon. — Mary Amsterdam on L’Angolo Tribeca has closed

  • This all reads as NIMBY. Reasonable operators are entitled to a shot at a liquor license. — james on L’Abeille will add a sushi restaurant from chef Eiji Ichimura

  • Looking forward to some great indian cuisine from Canada in NyC — Taliha on Distinguished Indian Canadian chef is coming to Leonard

  • We really need to elevate the behavior and make this body more responsible and responsive. Yes, and how do you suggest we do that? — George Bacon on L’Abeille will add a sushi restaurant from chef Eiji Ichimura

  • The M55 doesn't pick up on the Franklin st stop even though in the route map and app it is listed as a stop. I know because the bus has driven past our waiting family a few times when we tried. I have asked the bus drivers and they do not seem to have any clarity either. I submitted a complaint/suggestion to the DOT using their system to restore the bus stop and the response was they will look in to it. The stop used to be mid block between Leonard and Franklin before they moved it for the construction. There is a very long gap between the stop at White street and the next one on Duane and a stop in between is very much needed — shampab on Nosy Neighbor: What is going on with the bus stop on Broadway and Franklin?

  • I have appeared before the community board in Tribeca. They do no impact studies or assemble any information about neighborhood consequences. Their decisions are arbitrary and the whole proceeding is uninformed and very imperious. We need some set of rules that need to be followed. At least three members live in the same high rise building insulated from the havoc they may reap. They do not contribute to quality of life but rather create serious problems for neighbors with a response “if it’s a problem they won’t get their liquor license renewed in two years.” We really need to elevate the behavior and make this body more responsible and responsive. — Stjara on L’Abeille will add a sushi restaurant from chef Eiji Ichimura

  • Thanks to the arrival of my first grandchild I finally got to visit and buy something at Boomerang, a store I long admired but never entered (daughter was in grad school). The toys are incredible and I’m not surprised they are handpicked. The toy I bought, a farmer pulling a colorful wagon filled with different animals, all removable, all making individual sounds when inserted turns out to be his favorite! He carries the little sheep everywhere. — Tribeca Nonna on Happy Birthday to Boomerang Toys
