My mother-in-law, a very proper Southern woman (think Steel Magnolia) insisted on a "groom's cake" at my wedding & had Sylvia Weinstock make the most amazing cake. However, I was married 2 weeks after Sept 11th and Sylvia insisted and was actually able to make the cake-I think her husband delivered it :) I love that memory and was so impressed by Sylvia. My condolences to her family — SD on Sylvia Weinstock, whose cakes became the stars of many celebrity weddings, has died at 91
Yes, very sad. We tried to keep things going at Serenata and saw a number of locals dining in as well. Very sad. — TG on Some closings to note for the record
The trash cans on the streets are standard issue Department of Sanitation. The ones in WMP are Parks Department. I don't think Sanitation uses any covered cans on the street. Neither keep rats away however! — Tribeca Citizen on Community Board 1 agendas for December

https://sla.ny.gov/permits-available-online "An All Night Permit authorizes current on-premises licensees to remain open to sell alcoholic beverages between the closing hour prescribed by statue or by the county government and 8AM on New Year's Eve. The application for this permit must be received by the Liquor Authority 45 days prior to the date of the event (November 16th). Under the law, all Night Permits can not be issued for a Sunday. "Notice of the Licensee’s intent to apply for the permit must be sent to the local police department, or if there is no local police department, to the County’s Sheriff Department and such notice must also be sent to the Local Community Board (if applicable). Proof that the notice was mailed to both must be included with application. "Only active on-premises retail licensees can apply for an All Night Permit. "NOTE: In deciding whether to issue the permit, the Authority will consider the licensee's disciplinary history (including pending charges) and whether, given the nature of the event, the licensee has adequate facilities and security plans in place. The Authority's Licensing Bureau will make a decision on each application within 10 business days of filing. If the Licensing Bureau denies the application, the licensee can request a review of the decision by a Member of the Authority. Such requests should be sent to the Office of Counsel at the Authority's Albany office. A Member of the Authority will review the decision and make a final determination within 10 business days of receipt of the request. Regarding the New Market Building, the NYCEDC was given responsibility for maintaining the structure built in 1939 and used continuously by the Fish merchants until 2005. Under their watch the pilings were not maintained and it was falling into the river. Given its pedigree and its historical significance as a public market, "preservationists" were hoping that it could be repurposed for another public use. — Michael Kramer on Seen & Heard: Sushi of Gari coming along
Sylvia was an extremely creative, kind and generous soul. We in TriBeCa were so fortunate to have her as a neighbor and friend. Sylvia and her daughter Janet always supported local businesses and services. It was always a pleasure to see them. I met Sylvia recently as she was leaving the A Uno boutique ... didn't know who she was at the time. She was a lovely, feisty, very cool person who gave me some great advice about aging and not letting anything, certainly not that, stand in your way. When I read about her later, I was blown away by all that she has done in her life. Sympathies to her loved ones. — Susan Duffy on Sylvia Weinstock, whose cakes became the stars of many celebrity weddings, has died at 91

What a wonderful tribute! Meeting Robert, getting to know and love both him and Jennifer was a highlight of my chapter living in NYC. It was so powerful roaming the streets with him filming him in the snowstorms making art. He would always direct me telling me how to get certain buildings in for context.
