Ken and Lisa were my Animation teachers at Boston College. Two of the most inspiring people I’ve ever met. They became my mentors. A few years after college I worked for an animation studio at 77 Hudson just around the corner from their loft. It was quite the serendipity. 40 years after taking their class I’m still doing animation. In fact I was lucky enough to work with Lisa on a few projects. Tribeca was becoming suburbafied when I left it over 10 years ago. Judging by this article things have only gotten worse. It’s sad to see a good neighbor and celebrated chef being subjected to the petty whims of folks who are suburbanites at heart. Tribeca is already one of the cleanest, quietest and safest neighborhoods in the city. It's wonderful to have this financial support for the playground. It would be even better if enough money could be raised for the actual Estuarium. The Estuarium is intended to be the permanent home of the Hudson River Park River Project Wetlab, which has been connecting children and adults to the river for decades, conducting scientific research about our wondrous Hudson River and providing hands-on education and programming about the estuary and its myriad inhabitants for people of all ages. The Wetlab is currently and temporarily on Pier 40. It will have to move when Pier 40 is redone. The vision has long been for the permanent building to be returned to Pier 26, where The River Project was originally established in 1986. But the Hudson River Park Trust has not been able to raise sufficient money, though it has been trying for years. Anyone who has seen these astonishingly large and ancient Atlantic Sturgeon as they spawn upriver can only marvel at these animals and the river that welcomes them. The kids sturgeon park is a nice feature, reminding us of what amazing things this river holds, but completing that and the Estuarium will add so much to all who love and want to protect and restore the Hudson River. Tribeca has been a restaurant destination spot in NYC forever. Marc has been a wonderful neighbor and all three of his restaurants amazing and very thoughtful establishments. When Marc first came to Tribeca he hosted a table at Taste of Tribeca even before his restaurant was open. Through the years he has been a part of every fundraiser for the schools. He and his staff worked tirelessly through the height of the pandemic to provide meals for frontline workers and ran fundraising efforts to help his staff. He is also Chef Ambassador for Chefs for Kids Cancer, City Harvest, and Feeding America. What more do you people want in a neighbor? Everything you read in the Daily News isn't true, friend. This immigrant woman and her husband are the real American dream, a school teacher showing up here with $40 in her pocket, slaves as a nanny, puts herself through NYU, opens the first school, her husband is the architect, the owner of the building helped them get the mortgage. And her crime? Two decades later, she's running 20 schools, the biggest operator in the whole city, when she signed up for the subsidized lunch program, the fools in City Hall couldn't understand how she was charging them for more meals.... because her place is open all day, from 8AM to 6PM, the kids get breakfast, lunch, dinner and two snack periods versus a regular public school where you just get lunch. All the money went into the kids mouth. She's rich because she holds the mortgage on all of the schools, they pay her the rents... She was railroaded so the Feds could get a conviction from a foreigner who hadn't made the right (or any) political donations. Don't ya know? Great story of the early 80s! We are heading back in that direction with crime in the city. Always watch your back especially now while taking the train. This is the reason why people don't want to go back to work. This so called mayor destroyed our city. It didn't feel like there was a hatred for law informant back then. It was a fight against the citizens and the criminals in our city. I pray either Eric Adams or Curtis will clean this beautiful city up. I don't care either one will do! Is there any organizing to have that particular block of Duane Street converted into a permanent pedestrian-only street (with permanent outdoor seating and landscaping for restaurants and the neighborhood? The "safe street" program over the past year has been fantastic for Duane and similar streets; if there were a block in our area that is particularly well-suited to pedestrian-only usage, that block is it. — Reader on Reade on Marc Forgione will leave Reade and move to Hudson

Our bedroom windows face Hudson and there is a bar across the street. We don't always want to hear the late night noise BUT we are glad the bar is there and we want it to do well. So we turn on some white noise and move along. We are a small, not heavily trafficked neighborhood and we should welcome businesses that want to set up shop here and be a part of our community. They help to make our neighborhood vibrant and safe. Marc is/has been involved with three restaurants in Tribeca. It sounds like they are good neighbors, plus they support causes like Taste of Tribeca and shop at the local Greenmarket. The new Hudson location should also have a pretty sweet outdoor dining area since it extends around the corner onto Duane Street where Khe-Yo and Weather Up are. Really looking forward to it. Hopefully some other restaurant takes their old space as well. Absurd to complain about places of this caliber choosing our neighborhood when they can go anywhere in the city, especially after the challenges faced this past year. Forgione's popup BBQ on Reade was one of very few highlights. If people want suburbia they should move to suburbia. If they want a gated community Im sure there are some in Englewood nj. This is NYC and there should be noise all night. Im glad you posted this. I need to start paying attention to the agendas and attending and commenting in favor of these restaurants. Im from NYC and I lived in San Francisco for a bit. The people here who complain about hours should move to SF.
