the governor needs to stop using BPC as a dumping ground for all his memorials, put on his big boy pants and do the proper due diligence of fitting the right location to right memorial. BPC had some of the lowest numbers during the pandemic so why not bring a good design and new space to a neighborhood (hello queens) who suffered or near one of the hospitals that was overburdened. by not thinking through this thoughtfully the governor is making this about himself rather than sincerely recognizing our essential worker heroes. — urban cowgirl on Monument plans will be sent back to drawing board

The best location for this ill conceived excuse for a monument is NO PLACE. Who designed this travesty and how was this “artist” selected? If the Governor's choice of the grassy knoll for this memorial was reckless this is now verging on unhinged. This park is already a Memorial soup. Its an absurdity to look at the plan that puts this adjacent to the Irish hunger museum. If this is to be a monument honoring our essential workers of Covid, then why are we still talking about this location, which has the least context of perhaps anywhere in the city? Governor Cuomo, please roll up your sleeves, swallow your pride and work through this with our mayor instead of the easy sidestep this park provides you. Do the right thing and honor the workers where the workers and families most deeply affected by this horrible virus actually worked, and suffered. I don't live in Battery Park City, but I walk down there often. It seems to me that one area that seems to need some extra foliage is Kowsky Plaza, that area just south of Pumphouse Park, right next to where that piece of the Berlin Wall stands.
