So upsetting to hear someone would browse and then purchase on Amazon. There is nothing better than the joy of taking a child to Balloon Saloon and walking away with a purchase. What a sad look at modern day culture. Those people need a morality check and a Kindergarten lesson on what’s right is right and what’s wrong is wrong. I bought my partner birthday balloons a couple weeks ago, frequent the local pet shop as much as possible and a patron of all the local restaurants. This is an incredible store and Sharon and Tiffany have put their lifeblood into making it a fun and happy place. The fabulous balloon decorations both outside the store every day (which we all miss terribly) and the amazing ones going out the door for deliveries are very sadly missed. Amazon has destroyed and continues to destroy small businesses like these and it is not only very sad that people do not realize that they need to support small businesses, but that the government has not done anything at all to stop Amazon from doing this. General Washington did *not* direct the toppling of King George's statue. He ordered a reading of the Declaration of Independence, newly arrived in the City, to his soldiers by the commanders on the Common, near the present day location of City Hall, not at Bowling Green. Those orders included the following: "The General hopes this important Event will serve as a fresh incentive to every officer, and soldier, to act with Fidelity and Courage, as knowing that now the peace and safety of his Country depends (under God) solely on the success of our arms: And that he is now in the service of a State, possessed of sufficient power to reward his merit, and advance him to the highest Honors of a free Country." Some soldiers and Sons of Liberty then headed that evening down to Bowling Green, a mile away, and took down the statue, parts of which can be seen at the New York Historical Society. There was nothing ceremonial about the toppling of the statue, and "poignant" seems too classy IMO to describe the mob action. Outdoor dining is no longer a privilege, but in fact a much needed right. The Mayor and the City have made permanent the open restaurant program. The fact the community board could wield that much power over a business was absurd and thankfully has been curtailed. https://www.nytimes.com/2020/09/25/nyregion/nyc-outdoor-dining-restaurants.html I for one want to do everything to help the restaurants (existing and future) survive and thrive as they are one of the main things that make NYC a great place. I love the European feel the outdoor seating brings to our City. Further the economic boost / jobs the dining industry brings can't be discounted. On the other things, of course a hotel can't control what happens in the streets of the City. If the zoning allows hotels, and a hotel is built, you're undoubtedly going to get more traffic coming to the neighborhood. That's the tradeoff for living in a City. I agree, it will be a great addition. BUT - outdoor dining on our streets is a privilege, not a right, so let them operate for a year and return for outdoor street dining (assuming indoor dining is fully open of course). It is not really the facility itself that will be a problem, it will be the street noise as folks enter and leave, especially late night. Cars, folks talking (and yelling), and general commotions.
