  • LTBN made a piece of neon art for me in the early '80s when they were in Soho. Still have it, still looks great. Lovely people...I hope they don't move far away. — Makes You Go Hmmmm.... on Let There Be Neon will leave White Street after four decades

  • I miss Kings so much. It was more expensive than Target as expected due to economies of scale, but I was always happy to pay a few dollars extra to avoid having to hunt down and beg a Target employee to unlock some laundry detergent from its cage. I've heard of the Apollo hype so I'll be sure to give that a try once the initial lines die down. . — JB on Apollo Bagels has leased the Kings space

  • @tribecacitizen Is the PF Chang’s still coming to Chambers? Looks like nothing is going on in that retail space. It also looks like the seafood place that was going to take over the Ecco space is not happening. Chambers Street needs some love . . . — Reademan on Apollo Bagels has leased the Kings space

  • Another TriBeCa staple lost...I fear the future generations will have little clue of what the neighborhood has meant if we continue to lose places/landmarks like this...hopefully I'm wrong...but I'm usually right about these kinds of things. — Jack McT on Let There Be Neon will leave White Street after four decades

  • I was always fascinated by this place. Sad to see it go. I love neon. The Roxy's neon is a thing of beauty. Also very sad that one factor in the decision to relocate is the placard abuse which eliminates their truck parking. As for the planters, though, I don't see how those prevent trucks from picking up and delivering. I imagine they are designed to prevent vehicles from driving up onto the sidewalk to park, which is dangerous to pedestrians, but also dangerous as so many of the sidewalks in Tribeca are hollow vaults which may not be able to withstand the weight. There have been cases of sidewalk collapse in Tribeca and Soho when trucks drove up onto them. Anyway, the move of Let There Be Neon away from Tribeca is a real shame and I see it is a sad loss to the neighborhood. — Marcus on Let There Be Neon will leave White Street after four decades

  • Yes, definitely should attack the supply chain. Since most likely the items are created overseas, it's difficult to attack them at the source. But at least to attack the warehouses in this country and ideally catch the shipments as they arrive. Nevertheless, there also should be enforcement against the sellers. There also should be penalties against the buyers who knowingly buy counterfeit goods. (Of course, proving the "knowingly" is difficult... — Marcus on City Council Primary 2025: Jess Coleman

  • Ridiculous. I'm at Mudville all the time, and seeing this type of stuff scares me. — Jack Gaff on Garbage can swiped from residential building on Chambers

  • Marcus, I think what this candidate was saying that rather than going after the guys selling the counterfeit goods again and again, he thinks we should try to go further up the supply chain and go after the importers and distributors. Get closer to the root. I don’t know what efforts may have been made in the past to do this. — SW on City Council Primary 2025: Jess Coleman

  • The outside classes in Rockefeller Park taught by Carlos aren't under the Asphalt Green umbrella and are open to everyone for a $15 fee. The schedule is Wednesdays at 7:30 am and Saturdays and Sundays at 8 am. If you're interested, contact him at carlosfitness.nyc@gmail.com for more details. Also, the water fitness classes at AG are open to non-members, at the same prices as the exercise classes (though you may have to buy a water exercise-specific class pack). In the schedule they are listed as "Gym Classes" type with the names of the classes Hydrofit (in the big, cooler pool), Warm Water Exercise (in the small, warmer pool) and on Mondays in the big pool, Aqua Zumba with Carlos as the teacher. — N on Nosy Neighbor: Can you take classes at Asphalt Green if you are not a member?

  • As for reforming the outdoor dining, I still recommend a different solution, as I have in the past on this forum: - no sheds; they are an eyesore and make street cleaning difficult - where sidewalk is wide enough, allow (removable) sidewalk tables and chairs immediately adjacent to the restaurant, not across from it so that restaurant servers block pedestrians - widen sidewalks where possible (remove parking spaces as needed), which would also enable more such sidewalk cafe-style seating - if building allows, allow a retractable or fixed awning over the sidewalk dining area — Marcus on City Council Primary 2025: Jess Coleman

  • I agree with much of what Mr. Coleman says, but this suggests a weak approach to crime, which is not what I would think the city needs now. "That said, we should be careful not to over criminalize street-level sellers—many of whom are likely just trying to make ends meet." "Over-criminalize"? If anything, the problem is under-criminalizing; the penalties (if any) must be a trivial, since they neither prevent nor deter the counterfeiters. They should "make ends meet" by some other means than working for organized crime. It's time to end this. — Marcus on City Council Primary 2025: Jess Coleman

  • These are perennial issues that have been going on for years if not decades. Politicians come and go, so do their promises, one can't help feeling kind of disillusioned and jaded. One thing Jess mentioned in passing caught my attention- 'we know outdoor dining supports small businesses, but the City Council gutted the program' , it's worrisome if he was referring to the ubiquitous free for all dining sheds that had occupied the public sidewalks and streets during and after Covid, he has already lost my vote. As for the law breaking counterfeit sellers, their immigration status is also in question ( so far no politician dare touch on that). So at the end of the day it's all about ' everyone is trying to make ends meet' . Good luck! — R. on City Council Primary 2025: Jess Coleman
