  • As we all well know now, came the end of the 30 year lease: au revoir. — Ben on Spotlight: Tribeca Upholstery & Draperies

  • What Hanne and Melanie have done for this community is nothing short of heroic. From minute one they provided normalcy, community and routine to a very different and unprecedented time. Kudos to them and the DDF family for coming together and providing reassurance, camaraderie and an overwhelming feeling of love. Thank you! — Eileen Libutti on Local Business Update: Downtown Dance Factory

  • So much love and appreciation for all the hard work the DDF family has put in to keep our kids connected and dancing. — Henley on Local Business Update: Downtown Dance Factory

  • We are more grateful than ever to be part of the Downtown Dance Factory community! Virtual DDF has been a saving grace for our family during this challenging time! It has kept all three of our children active and creative on a daily basis! They are reminded daily that they belong to a community that stretches far beyond the confines of the walls surrounding them! They continue to feel nurtured, challenged, inspired and ‘seen’! We are so grateful and moved by the thought, effort and love that the DDF team has put forth to keep our children dancing and dreaming! ♥️ — Melina McGrew on Local Business Update: Downtown Dance Factory

  • Will try to get over to Reade Street Pub to take some pictures. Because (of course!) they have a windowful of positivity. (Miss you, guys!!) — Karen B on COVID-19: Messages to the neighborhood

  • Yes, it is normal for the park to be locked overnight (pre-pandemic) and usually opens before 6am so the dog walkers can let their dogs walk in the Pet Free zones. That is another story. I think the reasoning for closing the park lately is valid. If people aren't going to listen to the rules, officials are doing what they can to keep us safe so everything can re-open normally in the future. — JC on Nosy Neighbor: Why was the Warren Street path through City Hall Park closed?

  • Both sides of the park are normally locked between midnight and 6:00am, although I have found in my early morning walks over the Bridge that they are more often than not unlocked/opened by 5:00am. It would unacceptable to deprive the neighborhood of that open space on weekends. That park is not only an access route to the Bridge and the subway, it is also a peaceful and beautiful oasis to sit in and walk through, and if this is a ruse to somehow make it permanent we should raise our collective voices. — BobR on Nosy Neighbor: Why was the Warren Street path through City Hall Park closed?

  • Why aren't they switching to Zoom meetings? — Heide Fasnacht on Booze at the Regal Battery Park Cinemas

  • I have never seen that path locked at any hour -- and I come through there for the subway and by bike a lot. I did ask where the officer is usually stationed, since I have never seen a foot patrol through there, and she said there is a booth on the back of City Hall that they are not manning on the weekends at this point. — Tribeca Citizen on Nosy Neighbor: Why was the Warren Street path through City Hall Park closed?

  • Help me out here, I worked in 60 Hudson all through the 80's and 90's then mover up town in like 97 and there was this dish at a chinese take out, now let me say when your that close to Chinatown it's probably an early symptom of dementia it go to your adverage walkin takeout. And I'll admit most of their food was just ok but, this place on Greenwich at or just south of Duane. And they had a dish called noodles with dried shrimp or something like that. A microcope would not find a single shrimp on this brautiful rust colored sauce and it totally lacked any fishy taste but they called it noodles with dried shrimp and my goodness!!! It was simply the best most interesting dish that wonderful indescribable sauce over these inch and a half to two inch wide pure white velvety soft rice noodles. Ohhhh I can still taste them in my dreams on lucky nights. Like nothing you've ever had. Do you remember that little take out? I'm pretty sure it's not there anymore. And then there was Howes Bayou, but I guest thats a memory for a different day. Take care of yourself. Bye. — Ned on Tribeca in the 1980s

  • I think this is a really misleading answer by the NYPD. The park already CLOSES AT MIDNIGHT and the gates are locked then and reopened the next day. So the reason given, that they are short on foot patrols to cover the overnight hours is a complete fabrication. Even if that were true, what would be the reason for keeping the gates locked during the day? This strikes me as someone made a ridiculous decision and will now do the usual bureaucratic contortions to try to justify it instead of just fixing it. And neighborhood beware - she says she doesn’t “think it will be permanent.” Couldn't even bring herself to just say it was temporary. Get ready folks. Your access to the park on weekends is going away. — Franco P on Nosy Neighbor: Why was the Warren Street path through City Hall Park closed?

  • What fine tributes for such a wonderful doctor! My mother moved to Tribeca in 1976 and Dr Quraishi quickly became the family doctor. He lovingly cared for my mother until her death in 1991 and I have been his patient for over 40 years. He was so smart, so calm, so thorough and, yes, so funny. When he first moved to NYU Langone Trinity I noted that his new business card said clinical assistant professor. "Assistant Professor," I exclaimed, "You should be the Dean of NYU." He loved that story and often repeated it to colleagues in my presence. He also loved his work and no frightening disease was going to keep him from doing it. We are all devastated but also proud to have known him. Condolences to his family and friends. • What a wonderful story to brighten up these stay at home orders! Dodger is lucky to have you all and it's obvious to me this was meant to be! When I lived on Reade St. for 15 years, I rescued 3 different dogs, but luckily someone was looking for two and responded to "found dog" signs, & one we traced through the rabies tag # & Vet's name, since we had 3 Shar-Pei at the time and couldn't make it 4 dogs! A longtime client & resident told me people used to drive through the tunnel to "dump" dogs in Tribeca in the 80s. Sad. — Ann Zemaitis on A pup on the run, and a downtown rescue with a happy ending

  • Update It appears that the politicians and Battery Park City Authority are going to throw the stabilized people on the street Margaret Chin only cares about Chinatown district Rent Stabilized Tenants We are aware that currently-stabilized tenants with leases expiring after June 30 (when the current rent stabilization agreement expires) are being offered renewals at rent increases greater than that provided in the rent stabilization guidelines. GPTA is continuing to work with the Battery Park City Authority and our elected officials to secure an extension of the rent stabilization agreement. As of now, however, no such extension agreement has been reached, Tenants facing lease renewals should be mindful of the deadline specified in the renewal offer for acceptance. Typically, Gateway Management has required a response to its renewal offers within 30 days of the tenant’s receipt of the offer, but you should check your specific offer to make sure you understand the response deadline. You should keep a note of the date you received the offer. If your renewal offer cover letter is dated significantly earlier than when you received the offer, you may also want to save the envelope in which you received the offer if it bears a dated postmark. — Samantha on Gateway tenants battling to keep rents ‘affordable’

  • I have a similar story. Our adorable pure-bred Maltese, Oliver, was found huddled up against an exit ramp in Philly, retrieved, checked out by a UPenn vet and arrived on our doorstep, virtually unannounced, over two years ago. He was severely underweight, at six pounds, and totally shell-shocked, although very happy for regular feedings. We named him in honor of Oliver Twist and today he's adjusted to life as a happy, healthy, Tribeca pup! Now we can't imagine life without him. — Madelyne Kirch on A pup on the run, and a downtown rescue with a happy ending

  • Definitely a relaxing activity these days. I’ve recently seen song sparrows, white-throated sparrows, brown creepers and hermit thrush. Soon the warblers will be coming through. Keep your eyes open for black and white warblers, northern parulas, and common yellowthroats (among others). Thanks for the reminder Pam! — Claudine Williams on Sunday distance activity: Watch for birds in Battery Park City!
