terrible news — MADELINE LANCIANI on Dr. Nisar Quraishi dies from the coronavirus at 74
I wrote to Nadler and I donated. This small business program is a mess. These guys should be front and center. Has anyone found someone we can write to at Capitol One? — PATRICK Valentino on Local Business Update: King’s Pharmacy
In the nearly 30 years he treated me, Dr. Quraishi was always caring, reliable, funny, and thoughtful. I will miss him. — Priscilla McGeehon on Dr. Nisar Quraishi dies from the coronavirus at 74
That’s an awesome story. Thanks for sharing that. He had that David Letterman style of humor while remaining professional. You could talk to him, he listened & could deliver those deadpan, but also always positive, replies. He motivated me to get fit one year. I almost felt like I was trying to impress my father by coming back for an annual check-up fit & healthy. Slap on the back with a “keep it up” goes further than we imagine — MattieNYC on Dr. Nisar Quraishi dies from the coronavirus at 74
Dr Quraishi was my local Internal Medicine physician from 2008-2013. Being healthy, I saw him infrequently. While I worked in health care and needed titers he and his son were my go-to for certifying my health credentials for access to Northeast hospital Operating Rooms. He was kind, old school, sharp, caring and had a good sense of humor. His son, as well. My condolences for all his family. May he Rest In Peace. Lastly, I would just say, that his office at 303 Greenwich, would never meet the criteria for social distancing required during COVID19. Our neighborhood offices need more space. — MattieNYC on Dr. Nisar Quraishi dies from the coronavirus at 74
They should try US Bank or TDF, two of the banks that does not require you hold an account. — Isabelle on Local Business Update: King’s Pharmacy

I am very sorry to hear about this. I had an appointment with Dr. Q scheduled for next month at NYU Lang. He had been my GP since we moved to NYC in 2000. Someone from the office called last week to reschedule the appointment with another Dr. I had hoped that he was busy helping those struck with COV-19. My favorite memory was at one appointment Dr. Q asked me if I had been working out. My weight was up. I replied that I had been. He asked what sort of workouts. I told him that I’d been swimming. He said in deadpan delivery, “do you just stand in the pool, or do you actually swim? “ I will miss Dr. Quraishi. — joe h on Dr. Nisar Quraishi dies from the coronavirus at 74

All the rich people including celebrities in this neighborhood where 100K is a drop in the bucket for one of them and King's has to ask for donations psssshhhhh... — Pony Up on Local Business Update: King’s Pharmacy
While almost all banks have been requiring that an applicant bank with them to apply, there are a few that do not require that. Notably, PayPal has just set up to process PPP applications - I don’t know the link but they should look into that. However it will take a few weeks. — Judy on Local Business Update: King’s Pharmacy

I read a report on how runners spread coronavirus at an alarming rate. The parks are closed for families to walk or sit. Yet up and down the esplanade into BPC south sweaty runners without shirt and bicyclists none wearing Masks are sweating and excelling deep breaths. They do not socially distance. They have kept seniors from esplanade. There is running and bike path but these arrogant mostly 16-25 yrs olds choose to run and bike fast in one spot where apartment dwellers especially the elderly can escape cooped up apartments There is no police presence in BPC. Brookfield and BPCA are flouting the law. — Carmel DeSantos on Washington Market Park playground and courts are closed

Thank you for getting the word out. Just this morning I received a constituent email from Mr. Nadler describing the relief offered in the Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security Act, which can help small businesses like our vital Kings Pharmacy only if they are able to access it. Emails to Mr. Nadler require the +4 addition to our zip codes which can be found at https://tools.usps.com/go/zip-code-lookup.htm — MC on Local Business Update: King’s Pharmacy
Shame on Capital One! At very least they should return phone calls. I know that TD Bank is not only taking loans but getting them approved and into processing for a quick turnaround. I don't know if they are prioritizing their commercial relationships but it might be worth checking. Good luck Kings Pharmacy. We love and need you! — Elizabeth on Local Business Update: King’s Pharmacy
Another aspect of 9/11 was the immediacy and shock of the initial impact. One minute you might have been voting, or getting a coffee with a neighbor, and then......the sound, sight and smell of the world coming apart. With the pandemic, it was a crawling hazard that arrived while we watched complacently. And by "we" I mean that it's not just our government - many of us watched China deal with COVID-19 with passing interest in the scale of building a hospital in 10 days but perhaps a bit arrogant about the likelihood of its impact in our own neighborhoods. For months you could sort of opt out of dealing with the pandemic; that was NOT how 9/11 felt. In addition to the aspect of immediacy/shock, the way forward is different. With 9/11 we were galvanized by our shared experiences and banded together to help each other: feed first responders (Bouley), give children a place to experience joy (GroundHeroKids at the old firehouse on White St), developed CERT teams, organized RedCross visits, EPA cleaning teams, etc. With the pandemic, we help each other by "distancing" and putting money into gofundme accounts or buying gift cards to local shops - sincere in our feelings and desire to help but empty at the same time. Our resilience however - as a neighborhood, as neighbors - is the same. We will make our way through once more and come out stronger for it. — KPDNYC on Reflecting on another crisis, 19 years ago
What ever happened to curb your dog!? I've been here since the 80's and people just let their dogs pee and poo anywhere.. Smh. Its really not hard to curb train.. Go out the building to the street.. Stop being so lazy. — Tribeca Fam on Seen & Heard: The facade at the Clock Tower building revealed

Sad day for Tribeca. Madeline and I would take our kids there and wind up eating with other families for a communal dinner. Like one happy family we were and the kids loved it! — Dennis Pantzer on Peter Panayiotou, the owner of Gee Whiz, dies from the coronavirus
The biggest difference was that our leaders and experts saw this coming months ago. China was building large hospitals within a week and it was just passed off as interesting time-lapse video instead of, "Oh shit, did you see that movie CONTAGION? This shit is for reals, yo!!!" Politicians failed us yet again. As they always do...again and again and again and again and again... But who voted for them....again and again and again and again... If only Jared had worked harder on getting a secret "back channel" to China. — Jim Smithers on Reflecting on another crisis, 19 years ago
