  • I will miss your pithy comments and news about the neighborhood in general. As you say, things change. I lived in TriBeCa for ten years and recently moved to Soho. Nothing is perfect but I was tired of nannies and strollers and favorite restaurants closing. I’m originally from the West Coast. Santa Barbara is nice but the problem with having been a New Yorker for so long is that we grow used to what the city has to offer in spite of the often bad weather and toughness of the place. It makes it hard to settle over time anywhere else. However, I find more New Yorkers adjust to California better than Californians adjust to anyplace else. I’ve even toyed with going back but my kids are grown and consider themselves New Yorkers. Santa Barbara is beautiful and the best thing about it is the airport—not a small thing. Good luck! Maybe you will start another blog and we can all live vicariously. — Janet on TCQ&A: Erik Torkells

Who actually care about the community and not their commissions!) — TG on In the News: Are Billboard Barges Illegal?

  • Yes, you've mentioned it every time. My guess is that you care more about this than the restaurateurs (most of whom I met over the years), who might actually be delighted that people remember their endeavors. — Erik Torkells on Quiz: Dead Restaurants (Part 8)
