Maybe CB1 should call an emergency August meeting! The hearings are not until September, but the sooner CB1 gets actively involved the better. — Marcus on Seen & Heard: Another Store Closed at the World Trade Center Mall
It's safe to say that the folks at Community Board 1 are not happy that the de Blasio administration is pushing the jail plan through in August, when CB1 doesn't meet. As for the barbershop, CB1 doesn't regulate which businesses are allowed to move into the area—a good thing, all in all. I have my issues with CB1, but accusing them of taking bribes strikes me as wildly unfair. — Erik Torkells on Seen & Heard: Another Store Closed at the World Trade Center Mall
By the way, what would happen to the marriage bureau under this plan? So many couples have tied the knot there....That building and its functions should be preserved, not vandalized with a 40-story hybrid shopping mall-jail monstrosity. — Marcus on Seen & Heard: Another Store Closed at the World Trade Center Mall
Finally a rub and tug men's barbershop! Its about time we have a place to be "taken care of" — abe on Seen & Heard: Another Store Closed at the World Trade Center Mall
What in the HELL is going on Downtown/Tribeca. First a detention center being planned and now a burlesque hair cutting place. Excuse me do they know Tribeca is a family friendly neighborhood!!! Who's getting paid under the table at city hall and CB1 — Sandra on Seen & Heard: Another Store Closed at the World Trade Center Mall
Good news about the petition. Also anyone who cares about this please attend the hearing and voice your concerns: Manhattan: Sept. 27, at 6 p.m. Manhattan Municipal Building 1 Centre St., lower Manhattan Info here in new article on AM New York: https://www.amny.com/news/closing-rikers-island-explained-1.20505335 The 40-story traffic-congesting violence-non-stopping question: Do our opinions, and those of our community leaders, even make a difference? The article oddly ends with this statement, which sounds like the hearings are just perfunctory and the city plans to bulldoze ahead, wasting money and resources with no clear justification, no matter what: "After the public hearings and environmental review are complete, the city will present site plans for all four jails in one land use application, which is expected to be voted on by the City Council next summer." Nevertheless, since City Council has to vote on this, write to your councilmembers! https://council.nyc.gov/districts/ — Marcus on Seen & Heard: Another Store Closed at the World Trade Center Mall

I don't know much at this moment about the plan to put a corrections center down the street from the courts, so I don't feel qualified to comment on that. But based upon your link to the gallery photos for the Razzle Dazzle haircut spa place, I'm more immediately put off by the arrival of that. Looks like the developer is in over his head. Hopefully they will be able to complete the project. I haven't seen anyone working over there in a while. — Michael on Seen & Heard: Is Taylor Swift Looking to Expand Her Holdings?
The cast iron house went from sad to now downright dangerous. If the tarps fall, which they could -- that's a hazard. — pilates guy on Seen & Heard: Is Taylor Swift Looking to Expand Her Holdings?
Well done sir- I concede the point! And of course I meant 448 Greenwich. But still interesting how 443 is basically same design, albeit with a 3 bay window...will have to check the Daytonian... — Robert Ripps on Tribeca Then and Now: The Unknowns (Part 1)
Craig S: Why that nasty tone? Why criticize Erik by saying “anyone can count vacant stores?” That’s all he set out to do. He did the work of counting them and offered some possible explanations. BTW, you don’t know much about grammar. The plural of “landlord” is “landlords”, not “landlord’s”. — SW on Ghost Town: The 2018 Retail-Vacancy Report

I am glad to see an Aretha tribute related to Franklin Street. I remember after Prince's death someone bought a several sets of balloons spelling out PRINCE and put them on the street signs at (you guessed it) Prince St. If I could figure out how to make them stay I'd venture to Balloon Saloon and buy a bunch. — Susan on Seen & Heard: Is Taylor Swift Looking to Expand Her Holdings?

Erik - thanks for the interesting article. As a business owner and someone who leases space, i do feel that the rents on retail spaces and office spaces are disconnected from reasonable levels - that is manifest in the evergrowing number of empty spaces. Strangely landlords are very slow in adjusting rents. Look at the former Delluva spa location which has been empty for at least 4 years. At some point, the massive amount of supply should cause prices to come down - i hope we are close. It would be better for retail businesses and the tribeca neigborhood. — JJ on Ghost Town: The 2018 Retail-Vacancy Report

I still have issue with that location- if you look at the second floor windows on Google Maps here, currently 448 has 3 sections, while archival photo has 4. The windows could have been changed, but the current ones look pretty old, and the three window format is used at 433 Washington, which incidentally is almost a dead ringer for 448 Washington as seen on Google Maps here. — Robert Ripps on Tribeca Then and Now: The Unknowns (Part 1)
