  • From the French language police: "Au cheval" literally means "at the horse." It seems likely that "au cheval" is a corruption of "à cheval." In French, "à cheval" means "on horseback." "Steak haché oeuf à cheval" means "hamburger with a fried egg on top." — Marcel Proust on Seen & Heard: Au Cheval Isn’t Opening Anytime Soon

  • They are military helicopters, right? I am shocked that here in the Resistance Capital of the United States, no one is blaming the Commander in Chief. Wow. — PeterD on Military Helicopters Scare Lower Manhattan

  • All I want is a little space in Tribeca and Battery Park City with grass. Like they have all the way in the Battery during the spring, summer and fall. Revolving area to allow the grass to be maintained and regenerate. Lots of responsible dog owners. The concrete is so tough on the pups feet and they all have such a better time on grass. — Victoria Harmon on Showdown at the Warren Street Dog Park

  • I agree with everyone’s reply above. The “fake” street vendors and people hustling you for handbags and watches is a safety nightmare. Try going down the R train stairs in daylight on the south east side of Canal and Broadway. At least two or three hustlers. Been going on for the four decades since I’ve been a Tribeca resident. And this is not mentioning the mess on Walker just north of Canal and Broadway. Let’s hope this will get cleaned up but I have my doubts after years of complaints. — Dixie on Meet Your New Community Police Officers

  • Sorry, but this is taking something dumb and making it dumber. Yes, the current location is unsafe and impractical. But Wall & Broad is already a zoo, and I cant believe that the NYPD or the NYSE will be too happy with this. The area is already under constant surveillance and vigilance for attacks, etc., and adding to the chaos and crowds that already gather there would seem to be an unwise decision from a safety point of view. — BobR on The “Fearless Girl” Statue Is Being Moved

  • From a Huffington Post rave about the Au Cheval in Chicago: "'Au Cheval' literally means 'on horseback' but in France, if a food on a menu is described with that phrase, it means 'a fried egg on top.'" — Erik Torkells on Seen & Heard: Au Cheval Isn’t Opening Anytime Soon

  • Is it just me, or does anyone else find the name "Au cheval" unfortunate (it makes me think they're serving horse meant)? — KP on Seen & Heard: Au Cheval Isn’t Opening Anytime Soon

  • I think you have a very soft idea of what "dangerous and reckless" is. Relax... — Jeff on Military Helicopters Scare Lower Manhattan

  • The Parks Department does not operate any dog runs in BPC or HRPT. In fact, they are not the best Dog Run stewards and have been neglectful at their core in this case...definitely go to CB1 - the open space and parks committee and try Margaret Chin's office - nothing to lose by trying... — TM on Showdown at the Warren Street Dog Park

  • "Dangerous and reckless" is a value judgement. Just because you're not used to seeing it doesn't mean it was conducted without immense skill and planning. These are not a bunch of yahoos who an FAA sport pilot license going for a cruise. I seriously hope it's the beginning of regular missions here in the city. — alee on Military Helicopters Scare Lower Manhattan

  • I was walking back to my dorm and around 5 or 6 flew right over the buildings. Later when I was up in the dorm a few more went by and they were dangerously close to the buildings. I thought it might be military. Upper West Side btw. — IC on Military Helicopters Scare Lower Manhattan

  • I live in Central NJ and they have been flying loud, dark and fast over my house at low altitude Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday nights at 900PM south to north, and then at 1030PM north to south. And the altitude was at the height of the high voltage wires/towers. Last night they flew through the neighborhood parallel to the wires/towers. — Bob on Military Helicopters Scare Lower Manhattan

  • If my mother were still alive and living here, she would have had a heart attack. The copters were swerving between buildings for crissakes at eye level! Not along the Hudson River which we are unfortunately used to. They were flying from the Hudson along Vesey St above the Oculus and along Harrison St.and that’s only what I saw from my apartment. I understand the need for military exercises. But with prior warning!! I still can’t get it out of my system. And I’m no snowflake being a refugee from an armed revolution and a 9/11survivor. — Dixie on Military Helicopters Scare Lower Manhattan
