Brookti is one of the few black children growing up in tribeca. Betsy raises a lot of good points. I'm a little dissapointed that you disagree with seemingly so much. FTR, I know them both. — jammy sod on In the News: A Tribeca Mom Discusses Race

I read enough to know that I was going to disagree with much more than that paragraph. — Erik Torkells on In the News: A Tribeca Mom Discusses Race
It's a shame, Erik, that you only skimmed and then only highlighted a small rant (out of a much larger examination about race and identity) about real estate in Betsy's post because, as L showed, a lot of good points that could have led to a meaningful discussion about race and the changing face of tribeca has already devolved. — Jammy sod on In the News: A Tribeca Mom Discusses Race
I just walked through Whole Foods and they have a juice bar in the back by where the coffee is. — TribecaMom on Seen & Heard: Liquor Store Appears Doomed
Awwww poor baby Betsy! Life really sucks when you're living in a cheap loft rental. Relics? We're not "relics" - try just people who have lived here for decades, that's all. We're still alive, working, living, contributing, like I guess you are, so spare us your ageist condescension especially when you could be considered a "relic" yourself. What makes her annoying is she sounds like a market rate loft renter/seller sneering at people who don't pay market rent with her "obscenely cheap tenement lofts" remark like it's a bad thing/crime to live in one and have that rent when it's not, and yet she has the same rent herself. Cheap rent actually allows you to build savings for the future, emergencies, calamities, and retirement as well as have more money to play with which means more money to spend on local/area businesses. Also she comes off like she's above everyone else. Don't let the door hit your ass on the way out (if you decide to move) and I could care less if your kid is adopted and/or Ethopian. People Power! — L on In the News: A Tribeca Mom Discusses Race
I no longer live in Tribeca (now in SF), but browse TC from time to time when it shows up in my news feed. I feel compelled to put in a good word for the fresh squeezed OJ at Morgans Market on Hudson and Reade, it served me well for many a brunch. Great stuff, and just the right level of sweet. And I'll never forget that Morgans was one of the only places that stayed open during Sandy, even when we were all without power...super important to support these small local neighborhood shops. — Antony Courtney on Seen & Heard: Liquor Store Appears Doomed

The Gee Whiz serves freshly squeezed OJ, you may try them, although, as I don't drink it, I couldn't offer an opinion. — jim on Seen & Heard: Liquor Store Appears Doomed

Of course corruption must be acknowledged and confronted. But I believe that many of us, who lived here on 9/11 and who stayed here in incredibly difficult conditions, remember Mr. Silver with gratitude as one of the few people in power who really understood our problems and needs. It is never easy -- and shouldn't be easy -- to forget a helping hand. Mr. Silver is being punished for any misdeeds; but many of us will always remember how much he helped us to recover. We tend to forget yesterday too quickly. It breaks my heart to see our brave first responders having to fight for assistance in Washington right now. Let's be aware of our own history in every instance. We are not always in the right but, sometimes, right and wrong is complicated. Acknowledgment of wrong doing is essential, but so is understanding. — betty on In the News: Small Supermarket Opening at the World Trade Center
Thanks for doing this Erik!! I really want to support the local tribeca businesses and thisis very helpful. — Daniela on Shop-Local Gift Guide (Part 1)
Agree with your comment about the pathetic tributes to Sheldon Silver in The Broadsheet from various community "leaders." Was no one embarrassed by Silver using his office for personal enrichment? The ends apparently justified the thoroughly corrupt means. — Jon on In the News: Small Supermarket Opening at the World Trade Center

I think the Sterling Mason looks great. Wish I had a condo there. — brad on “Crappy New Construction”
Speaking of shit, could the Tribeca Trust stop trashing the neighborhood with their "Stop Demolishing Tribeca" posters? Can the city fine them for that? It's no better than the immature, look-at-me-please-look-at-me-Triraq-ers. It's time for everyone to grow up. Except me. — Jim Smithers on Seen & Heard: Acting Classes for Kids
Speaking of junk mail from real estate agents, is there a way to get them to stop sending it? Years ago I asked to get off the mailing list of a particularly egregious one to no avail. — KP on Seen & Heard: Acting Classes for Kids
I don't think the news of a supermarket at the WTC is new news at all. It had been previously announced that Jones the Grocer was opening. Then it was announced that Jones the Grocer had changed its name to Market Lane. That name was one of the vendors listed in the presentation at CB1 last night. I think Market Lane is the supermarket in question. The great thing is that it will be located at 4 WTC which will be great for FiDi residents in Greenwich South in particular. — Luis Vazquez (FiDi Fan Page) on In the News: Small Supermarket Opening at the World Trade Center

A warning to all to not buy a Christmas tree from the lot on Greenwich St near Chambers (Soho Trees) I picked out a tree this morning and arranged delivery with the guy and that I what I was to pay when it was delivered. No one showed up for 3 hours so I called the main office who straightened it all out (the new tree showed up 2 hours later) After the guys set the tree up they told me it was $445!!!! double what I was originally told. I explained that was double what I was told by the guy in the lot- they said that was 'the night guy who didn't know how things worked' and that this was how much *this tree cost. The only option they had for me not paying $445 was for them to take the tree down and take it back and to find me a tree that was only $225 and then arrange another delivery time. I was already late for my train and since I was already 5 hours into it was these guys I paid the ridiculous amount ONLY IN TRIBECA! I KNOW!...I am obviously an IDIOT for paying this much for a tree but I felt stuck. I can only share this experience and recommend that your readers not go to this lot for their tree..or at least get it in writing the agreed upon amount before delivery. — julie on Shop-Local Gift Guide (Part 4)
Thanks for putting together the local shopping gift guide. I'm exactly in the mood for only shopping local this year -- staying close to home -- and looking for unique gifts. — Amy Sewell on Shop-Local Gift Guide (Part 3)
