I've done a couple posts. The best way is to repeatedly call 311. That puts the individual on the radar of DHS. Then the DHS teams visit regularly. It can take months to convince someone to leave the streets, but that's what the DHS social workers do -- try to build a rapport with someone and eventually convince them to accept shelter. Keep in mind that many of the entrenched homeless also have major mental health issues. So it's not an easy or simple task. — Tribeca Citizen on City Hall Park is cleared out and cleaned up
The occupation had long since shifted from being about any real protest and had just become a giant homeless encampment. I visited a few times, and I will say that there were some commendable folks who were providing food and provisions to the homeless and genuinely seemed well-intentioned. But that’s not the proper way for homeless to get services, nor is it in the public’s safety interest to allow large homeless camps like that to persist, especially when many occupants had clear mental health problems that couldn’t be addressed. The city did the right thing, even if it did take too long. Hopefully the park can be cleaned and reopened while there is still time for people to enjoy it this summer. — Mark on City Hall Park is cleared out and cleaned up
Thank goodness! I was verbally attacked by these horrible people!! They were not protestors! They were criminals including the mayor! — Andrea on City Hall Park is cleared out and cleaned up
Awesome news, thanks Pam! Now can they change the sprinkler timer? It goes off at 7pm! Prime summer evening grass hours for the kids and after they water the grass it makes it too wet for the rest of the night. Maybe it could go off at 9pm or 10pm? — C. on 111 Murray pocket park now complete
WELL SAID! What can we do to take back our area? The hight taxes are not buying us safety and the vagrants in Tribeca are really scary. — Amen on City Hall Park is cleared out and cleaned up
This mayor is horrible. The lawlessness and crazy homeless population are appalling! — Agreed on City Hall Park is cleared out and cleaned up
This occupy site became an encampment for homeless. Finally. I am very worried that homeless are taking over our beloved neighborhood too. TC - can you please investigate what we as a community can do to solve this problem? — Jason on City Hall Park is cleared out and cleaned up
Finally. What took so long? This was a disgrace and shame upon NYC, and, along with the increase in violent crime, fosters the sense of lawlessness and anarchy. — Marcus on City Hall Park is cleared out and cleaned up
I lived through every mayor of New York City from John Lindsey to DeBlasio. Some great ones: Koch Giuliani (before he lost his mind) Bloomberg Some not so great: Beame Dinkins But DeBlasio takes the cake as the worst, most divisive do nothing mayor this city has ever seem. Oh and he ran for President? What a joke. Cannot believe he was elected to a second term. Shows the dearth of quality candidates. — Marc on City Hall Park is cleared out and cleaned up
Why? Why? Why is there no leadership De Blasio? Are there no longer consequences for bad behavior? He's praising the lowest amount of prisoners in the jails, has he not gotten the memo: Get Out Of Jail FREE! Cards were handed out with bail reform. This is my city too, I pay taxes, I am law abiding, I want to feel safe, I want to see the city prosper and filled, not desecrated and deserted. De Blasio RESIGN! NOW!!!!! — sharon Hershkowitz on City Hall Park is cleared out and cleaned up
They should have locked them up when the damage was done. It’s time to remove the mayor out now. How dare him allow this for 30 days. — Karen on City Hall Park is cleared out and cleaned up
Sorry, that was supposed to link to Mel's email: melfurukawa@gmail.com. I updated the site. — Tribeca Citizen on Seen & Heard: Progress at Bogardus Plaza
Having walked by that encampment several times during the protests, I am very happy to see this cleaned up. It made the old Grateful Dead concert parking lots look like modern luxury. Perhaps in a few weeks the odors and graffiti will also disappear. — MattieNYC on City Hall Park is cleared out and cleaned up
I hope they reopen the park soon, at least the Park Place side. Juniper Peanut & I miss it! — Lynda Lippin on City Hall Park is cleared out and cleaned up

Makes sense. When I moved into the neighborhood in 2001 they were already a neighborhood mainstay for Indian — Jennifer on A string of closings, perhaps to be followed by more
I saw the moving van too. Looked like they were definitely moving out. — Jennifer on A string of closings, perhaps to be followed by more
On the zip code maps 10013 is shown to and listed as including Tribeca and Chinatown. Does anyone have stats differentiating Tribeca from Chinatown? I haven’t been able to find one. My guess is that Tribeca’s higher case count may be based on the data grouped by zip code and that Chinatown’s higher population density may be a factor. — Duane Parker on The city releases positive COVID-19 cases by zip code
Darn-- i wish we had a TriBeCa BID to help those of us who have spent lots of $$$ on their outdoor seating spaces. Kudos to Hudson Square BID and DowntwnAlliance for stepping up! — MADELINE LANCIANI on Two of the downtown BIDs are setting up Open Street spaces
It’s really sad to see this. It’s too bad those that abandoned their neighborhood for their country homes forgot about the businesses that made the neighborhood so great. If they ever work up the courage to return, they will hopefully recognize that they should have perhaps done more to help. Hopefully some did help, but revitalization is going to be challenging for a while with so many empty storefronts. — Michael on A string of closings, perhaps to be followed by more
Thank God. It’s about time! — Reade Street on City Hall Park is cleared out and cleaned up
DeeDee. Are you for real? A local business is going to try and make a come back and all you can do is whine and moan, you really must be a treat to live with. And I'm sure most of the businesses in the area were there before you became THEIR neighbor. Lighten up and help the neighborhood not hinder it. Enjoy the rest of the summer. — Mike on Tribeca’s Kitchen will reopen this week

Did you vote in the last two primary and general mayoral elections? It seems not too many people did. That's how we got this bozo. — james on A homeless encampment on Franklin and frustrated neighbors
To Joseph and Anjali Augustine and the 52 Thomas St board members - shame on you for having Andy’s permit revoked. Just shameful. I can’t wait to eat back there to help celebrate Andy and to honor his memory ????. — Duane Street on Tribeca’s Kitchen will reopen this week
