Like the “Est. 1938″ sign on its door, the name of Maxwell’s is an homage to an old inhabitant of the space, a restaurant called John Maxwell’s that was indeed established in 1938. More recently, it was Spaghetti Western, and the wooden bar, smoky mirrors, booths, and center partition from those days remain intact. The owners cite P.J. Clarke’s and J.G. Melon as inspiration, which gives you a clue as to where the menu is headed—burgers, flatbread pizzas, pastas, and straightforward entrées.

  1. Wonderful! Wound’t have known about this place without the Tribeca Citizen.
