“More posters than exist” is the motto at Philip Williams Posters, which is what makes the store such a pleasure and also a tad intimidating. The best strategy for looking for a gift is to start by scoping out the store’s website, which is organized by subject, for ones that mean something to the recipient. Or you could go just walk around and hope: That’s how I found these three, none of which have anything to do with me but which I’d gladly accept as gifts: the RAI one is $600, Unholy Wife is $900 (framed), and the one with dancers’ arms, a Polish film poster, is $300. (Members of a certain demographic will also covet the Twilight: New Moon posters, $12 or two for $20.) • 122 Chambers (bet. Church and West Broadway), 212-513-0313, postermuseum.com.
You can never go wrong with vintage port: Chambers Street Wines sells a half-bottle of Graham’s Malvedos 1988 for $45. If you toss in a pair of the Ravenscroft Scotch glasses ($16 each), maybe the Port will get opened in your presence. • 148 Chambers (bet. West Broadway and Greenwich), 212-227-1434, chambersstwines.com.
I had been under the impression that Amanzi Tea was part of a nationwide chain, perhaps Starbucks’s attempt to launch a new brand, but there are only three stores—in Paramus, N.J.; Greenville, S.C.; and Tribeca. I’m just not a tea person, but there are gift packages and paraphernalia that will speak to those who are. Personally, I was drawn to Sylvia Weinstock’s miniature chocolate cakes, packaged to look like tiny gourmet Hostess Ding Dongs (or King Dons or Big Wheels, as Ding Dongs were known in certain parts of the country). At $2.50, they’d make tasty little stocking stuffers. • 166 Chambers (bet. West Broadway and Greenwich), 212-227-2744, amanzitea.com.
When I walked into Langdon Florist, I vaguely noticed a hubbub in the rear of the store, but I didn’t even bother to look. I made a beeline for the paperwhites ($40), and only when I glanced up did I realize that I had walked into the background of a television shoot. Later, I learned that a crew from “Entertainment Tonight” was shooting a segment with the CEO of 1-800-FLOWERS, due to air tonight. I felt terrible, but not quite terrible enough to seek forgiveness by sending a gorgeous amaryllis ($40). • 62 Reade (bet. Broadway and Church), 212-962-4370, langdonflorist.com.
Prettily packaged brownies, cashew bark, chocolate-dipped pretzels, cookie assortments, chocolate-dipped black mission figs—there’s no end to the deliciousness at Tribeca Treats. If you really want to make someone happy, consider the Chocolate Lover’s Gift Basket ($95), filled with nut bark, cocoa mix, truffles, brownies, chocolate bars, and chocolate snowflake cookies. Throw in a gallon of milk and you have a recipe for a wholesome lost weekend. (On a non-caloric but just-as-sweet note, Tribeca Treats also sells adorable “Yummy” infant’s shirts for $5.) • 94 Reade (bet. Church and West Broadway), 212-571-0500, tribecatreats.com.
The staffers at Canis Minor weren’t sure if I could photograph anything without permission of the owner, who was away, so I had no choice but to buy a new toy for my dog; a pug, he likes doughnuts ($5). The straw cat toys, on the other hand, were so sculptural that I’m tempted to display them in my apartment ($4.50). • 106 Reade (bet. Church and West Broadway), 212-219-1632, canisminor.net.
Kiva Cafe is currently showing pottery by Tribeca-based artist Lai Montesca, whose celadon vases hardly need flowers ($45 and $65). • 139 Reade (bet. Hudson and Greenwich), 212-587-1198, kivacafe.com.
Petticoat Lane stocks some beautiful lingerie, but these Rebecca Minkoff bracelets that struck me as sexier, what with their rock-n-roll, bad-girl vibe ($59 and $69). • 149 Reade (bet. Hudson and Greenwich), 212-571-5115, bagshop.com.

And what of gift ideas further down Chambers Street? A 10Club membership at BMCC/ Tribeca Performing Arts Center is the perfect holiday present! (In the humble opinion of BMCC/ Tribeca Performing Arts Center).
Happy holidays — and great good luck with the site.
Thanks!
