Yesterday, while trying to estimate how long it would take to walk to Pier A, I searched for “New York City” on Google Maps. Imagine my surprise when—and this may only be interesting to me—I saw that the little “A” marker was placed at the northeast corner of Broadway and Chambers, a corner I know too well. (And the little image that pops up is of that Duane Reade.) The city has any number of icons—Times Square, Central Park, the Empire State Building—that would be more apt, but what really surprised me was that the marker is one block from the most legitimate location of all, City Hall.
